I really hadn't thought of sharing ebook availability here, but I noticed Lyn mentioned a Kindle cover, so I thought I would mention this: Available to those with a Kindle or Kindle app are these public domain books, meaning, of course, that they are old, but.......Free and some info doesn't change. These are just a few examples. www.amazon.com/Needlework-Book-about-Embroidery-ebook/dp/B002RKT9YE/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1331731921&sr=1-1 www.amazon.com/Handbook-of-Embroidery-ebook/dp/B004S8EQ1Y/ref=pd_sim_kstore_2?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2 www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-of-Needlework-ebook/dp/B004TRPY1U/ref=pd_sim_kstore_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2 www.amazon.com/Vegetable-Recipes-Information-Useful-ebook/dp/B002RKSHO2/ref=pd_sim_kstore_30 I think this could be really interesting. I am sure, also, that if you look the book up on the internet, there are other public domain sites that have the book, not related to Kindle.

Karen you can get kindle for PC free from amazon. the other thing amazon does everyday is post free books. I found this out from a homesteading blog and facebook page I follow www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Joybilee-Farm/246351231807. She post some of the homesteading books every day. Sometimes they are only free for a few hours but mostly for a whole day. When you do a category search change the list to read cheapest to most expensive. I have several just started collecting some books. the free books change everyday.

when you buy an ebook it will ask you if you want it to go to your kindle for pc. you buy the free books. the cost is just 0.00. there is a shop button on the right. beside the search box. if the book doesn't show up you press the sync button. I had to do it once. my connection probably hiccuped.

Zed, you need to also be aware that the books I listed may or may not be available in your area. Actually, you may have different books that are even better! If you click on one of the links I provided, it should take you to that book and it should say the price is 0.00. If it does, then you can click buy and it should be delivered to your Kindle for PC.

I think they weren't available in my area, but I have the pc version now, so can have a good look.
Has anyone bought any craft books for kindle? If so, do you think they work or is it too restricting? Is a book better?

Hi Zed, I have bought a few craft books. One I returned because the pictures could not be enlarged and it was really hard to see the details you were supposed to be learning about.
I think the main thing to keep in mind is that you can't lay the book down and copy the picture, whatever it is. Since I don't do that anyway, it hasn't been a problem for me. Mostly I READ craft books and look at pictures for clarifying what is printed and my kindle is perfect for that. I haven't tried them on my kindle for pc as I read them on my kindle Fire, which - thank heavens - has color.
Another thing to remember is that Amazon lets you return any ebook within 7 days for any reason at all. So, you can buy the book and if you find it doesn't work for you, you can return it for a full refund.
Also, if you have Prime (free shipping with Amazon - $79 a year in the US) they have a lending library where you can borrow one book a month and I have gotten a few craft books from that without having to buy them.
If you have a specific book you are interested in, I can download a sample (usually 10% of the book) and let you know what I think. (for some reason I don't think you can download samples to the pc version, but if you can, that's the best way to tell if you are going to like the book)

Thanks for that, Pam. I didn't think they'd be great, some books just have to be held, don't they.

I agree, Zed. However when it is mostly reading it works out fine. I just got a new book that I am really enjoying (not kindle), Thread Magic Garden by Ellen Anne Eddy. She has some really great ideas for free-motion embroidery, and other things too. I definitely need this one to hold!
