Some do, some don't! Soak them well before use and you could try Solar Dyeing, I have some on a sunny windowsill - there's also a radiator under this window, so the jar stays quite warm. I'll let you see the results when I unwrap it - trying to leave it as long as possible. I picked up lots of eucalyptus bark this afternoon, I think I detected some eye rolling by DH when I came in with my bundle.

Hello Judith. I get those same looks from my DH too.... But I do have to admit he thinks my scarfs look great so I quess he does not think I am totally crazy... Huge smile... It is a very sunny day here so I must get going outside... Here is a photo of Miss Norway Maple in our front yards and last week you could not see thru the tree for a l the leaves and a week later the leaves are just about all gone.. Second photo backyard maple and third pic our back deck full of acorns and oak leaves.. I wish I had the energy to pick up all those acorn so I could dye with them..

Beautiful trees! We've had a wonderful autumn display this year as it's been dry and sunny, we often have a wet autumn which means the leaves just droop and rot.
Pick up some of those acorns Judy, you don't need many to make a mordant and if you dry them afterwards they can be used again and again - until they no longer give a beige tint to the fabric/fibre.

Yes, by all means grab those acorns, Judy! I’ve been searching for acorns and walnuts in my neighborhood but haven’t found any yet. So envious of you who have nature’s bounty at your fingertips.

Love the yardstick idea Judith. Your wall hanging is beautiful and the stitching you added is wonderful.

Beautiful!!! The yardstick is also a wonderful idea. Is the stitching free motion?

Lovely Judith! The stitching is very delicate, I had to zoom right in to see it and using the ruler for hanging is inspired. May I ask how you attached the ruler to the wall please?

Thanks Teri. The ruler idea came from Ann Hermes' blog, details here:- notesfromthequiltlab.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/rulers-and-yardsticks-arent-just-for.htmlI've been thinking of how to display this lovely old 24" ruler for ages - coming across the blog just as I was thinking of how to hang the quilted piece seemed 'meant'. To attach the hanging to the ruler I used some extremely fine wool and silk yarn - hand dyed of course and used a variation of blanket stitch at about 2" intervals on the back of the edging. I tried, not very successfully, to let the wrap blend into the divisions on the ruler. Some curtain weights and a dowel inserted into the bottom sleeve to help it hang well. Elizabeth. There are some leaf motifs which lent themselves to hand quilting, then I just used a scribbly, meandering design in free motion stitching as infill.
