Today I wanted to test a new wool and fiber blend which I bought from Worldof Wool. It is called Silken and it is claimed that it consist of 50:50% blend of silk and merino and it is suitable for felting www.worldofwool.co.uk/products/312/woolfibre_blends/silken.htm When I opened the package it seemed to me it was all silk and no wool in it. I made two samples: on the first one I laid some merino wool and spred some Silken on top. The other sample was only Silken. I felted both pieces to find out that Silken must be silk only because what I got was some lacey piece which did not hold together well (see the piece on the bottom of picture). Have any of you tried this particular blend before? How did you use it?

My guess is that they sent you the wrong item, it certainly looks like pure silk. I just looked at the WoW website & the picture of the silken product looks like a mix of silk & merino, yours doesn't! This could be a good test of the customer service at WoW - If I was you I would send them this photo.
By the way (& you may not want to tell WoW this) - but ooooo it's gorgeous silk & looks so lovely as a decorative fibre on your top piece!

It does look like pure silk to me too. I would certainly investigate further with WOW. Lovely silk though

I've used silk/merino mix and it's not that shiny. It's definitely silk that you received and such a gorgeouss color! The cobwebby effect is kind of nice with your last sample of you had an application for it.

Yes, Marilyn, I got the same idea - using this silk cobwebby "prefelt" as an application.

Take it up with WoW - they may even compensate with some freebies!

It looks like there might be a tiny bit of wool in there, or could just be light. I'd certainly not complain, but I'd probably email them as a courtesy just in case it's a whole batch, they could lose a lot of money from it, especially if people do want swaps too.

I agree with zed, I would contact wow more out of courtesy than because I would want to swap, I suspect you got a bit of a bargain there Halay, pure silk is usually more expensive than the 50:50 blends. I would be tempted to use it to make my own blends

I'm with you Teri. The silk alone is worth much more.

I reckon you got a bargain - even though it wasn't what you ordered. Pretty colour!

Yes I would let them know a mistake was made. You can tell them you are happy to keep what you have but thought they should know. They are very nice at WOW

Halay in my ignorance I tried felting silk in a nuno scarf - and of course nothing happened!!!
The merino/silk mix I buy has more merino than silk, I like the idea of 50.50 and the same colour
