This is the first mask in what I intend to be a series of four based on the elements - air, water, earth and fire. The mask is made from Felbi batts, then painted and decorated with needlelace and beading.

Thanks everyone. Ann I used standard acrylic paints, cheap ones for most of it and a couple of the Jo Sonya range for the irridescent and opal dust highlights. The choice of felt was because it manipulates easily but will stay in a shape once you put it there and will hold the swirls and raised sections on it's own while it dries. Most fabrics when wet would fall out of shape and therefore not hold all the design without lots of support underneath.

I had given this some thought a few times, but never did any experiments with it. Please let us know where this goes. I like it.
