I've just re-read Ruth's post from last year:-http://feltingandfiberstudio.com/2014/03/19/finishing-and-framing/ Very helpful thank you Ruth. I'm planning to mount my "Day of the Triffids" onto stretcher bars, but I'd like to retain the organic edges of my work. I thought I might dye or paint some canvas or other strong cotton fabric to lace onto oversized stretcher bars and attach the felt to the canvas, creating a reveal all around.

This site is so different on my iPad! I have devised a way of framing my work so that it lies flat to a wall. I call it a "floating frame". I have downloaded my instructions via OneDrive which has changed the formatting drastically but it is still readable. Hopefully, I will be able to attach it.
Nope. Can anyone help me here?

PM me or one of the other global moderators, you could email us the file and we can host it on the Studio site, and put the link here.

It's a file from open office. That's a free office program.

I came up with a quick solution last week when trying to mount an odd size flat piece. The work was 17" x 18" with not very straight edges. I bought a standard 16" x 16" pre-stretched canvas from the art store, then placed Velcro all along the side edges (using the sticky back velcro.. although you could staple it too.) The wool sticks all-too-well to the Velcro loops and can be adjusted easily. The feltwork then "floats" on the canvas.. the edges overhanging. Make sense?
I was in a time-crunch but still managed to get the piece ready to hang in about 10 minutes. Wire like you would any picture frame.

Shana - did you just leave the canvas white? Just wondering what it looked like from the edge.

Shana, I tried the same technique last year when I was doing some exhibiting, but I found that the velcro strip loops did not hold the felt work well enough to hang it that way. So I added lashing to the canvas, thanks to Ruth’s excellent tutorial. I found the lashing difficult to accomplish (tough getting through the canvas), but I felt confident that it would hold permanently, and it has thus far!

I used the wide super strong stuff. I cut it almost as long as the piece so there would be no sagging.

Ann, are you using both sides of the velcro? Doesn’t it need to be sewn onto the felt and the canvas? Maybe I bought the wrong kind of VELCRO.
