Yup we sure are Ruth. I still have my bean tins and string somewhere.......
I did intend to keep up with things - I really did - but I lost all enthusiasm and interest when I realised that I didn't actually understand what was going on.
My daughter was trying to explain something to me about the computer recently and half-way through she stopped abruptly. She'd realised that it was all going right over my head. 'Right' she said 'Ok mum, just accept that it's magic. Just press this button......'

yep its magic to me too. I like science fiction but not the hard core stuff. If the author tells me that a computer or piece of future technology can do something I believe him/her. They don't have to waste 3 chapters explaining how and why. I want the story not the science. It's better if its humorous too. I only have a vague idea how most things work. Its better that way.
