I have no idea about eco printing but can help you with making two flaps: first you need to prepare the basic shape of your bag incuding the part which will serve as a flap. lay out woll in as many layers as you wish and then simply use a resist (if you would like to have tha same shape of the flap as it is in the picture) cut out a piece of U-shaped plastics and put it on the surface of your flap and the add more wool on the top and make sure that the edges of the resit reach beyond the edges of the flap. Then continue with felting.

Thanks Nada for the information about the extra flap. Much appreciated. It looks like there is not anyone into Eco Printing.

I am actually interested in eco dyeing and eco printing, but would like to try it first with an artist/teacher who specializes in that technique, such as India Flint (whose classes are always full!)

Hello everyone, I had a look at Terrie blog and she is very into Eco dying lovely work indeed. She mention Dawn Edwards www.feltsoright.com/Home_Page.php for workshops in Eco Printing... Which in Painwells Michigan.. This town is about a 2 1/2 hours drive from me... So fairly close., . She has many workshop but none on Eco Printing at the moment. I will email her to see when her next workshop will be in Eco Printing. I love the lavender colors you get with a natural dye called "Logwood chips. If you mixed it with different things like "Alum" you get a shade of purple. And if you mix it with "Baking Soda". you get another shade of purple. Most interesting.. I wonder if there is a book out on "Eco Printing" ?? I will have to start collecting leaves. Many years ago a friend from Australia sent me some Eucalyptus leaves and some other natural things and I have saved them...I wonder if they would still be effective in dying. Unfortunately there is No Eucalyptus leaves here in Michigan.. Smile. We are heading south this coming Winter I will have to do some collecting of leaves while in the balmy south..

Judy, please keep me posted…I would love to try a class in eco-dyeing and eco-printing. I have read that the leaves and plants must be fresh. I tried to purchase eucalyptus at a nursery recently and was told only a florist would have it. I also had purchased “indigo” and then found out it was “false indigo” which does not turn blue but very pale yellow. So, I am waiting for an expert’s instruction! Illinois, as with Michigan, does not grow some of these wonderful plants.
If you would like to check out eco-dyeing and eco-printing, India Flint has written a few books on the process.
