Spent the Memorial Day Monday doing some more acid dyeing--this time with my new "fire engine red" from Dharma. I was trying for red, orange and purple but also experimented with yellow and orange. I dyed pencil roving, regular roving, and silk gauze and habotai. Results were mixed, and I didn't quite get the colors I wanted, but they all came out all right. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/6hwkdnqurvbl3gbjjswd.jpg

The red looks nice. It takes a bit of practice and keeping track to reproduce colors exactly. I find that I can always use varying shades of the same color even if it isn't something you would think you need.

Exactly, Ruth. I had a notebook out to take notes but got so excited with the squirt bottles and new colors that I totally forgot to keep track! But all of it is usable.

It all looks great Cathy. The nice thing about felting is that the roving and silk doesn't have to be perfect to make nice felt. ;-) can you put on your link to flickr?

looks great, I love it when the colour comes out in shades of, I think it adds dimension to pieces :-) and like you I get so carried away with process I forget to write down what I have done, then again each time is a new adventure :-)

They all look great, Cathy I really like the orange silk piece. I like the non uniformity of hand dyeing, the variations and getting different results each time, never really knowing how it will turn out... the way I like to do it anyway I've got World of Wool for exact matches.

Thanks Carole and Zed! Yes, "shades of" and non-uniformity is fine by me. I guess if the time comes when I need specific colors with no variance, I will keep notes. In the meantime, for me it's all about the process!

you got some great colours. I never take notes. I know I wouldn't follow my own instructions anyway. I have been so into picking and mixing colours I forgot the vinegar.

Ha! That's funny, Ann! It is easy when dyeing to get carried away with the colors and forget all else.
