If at first you don't succeed............................ So here goes! fibre 'painting' by koffipot, on Flickr I said earlier today that I'd give postcards a go. No sooner said than done. However, they aren't great However, the light isn't great, which, though it doesn't help, is not my excuse. Not sure if the photo even wants to be displayed - now, that says a lot! However, if it does come up, it's my portrail of my area - ' Wild Meadows' under a moody sky, Muker in Swaledale. The smell is wonderful, and the hay is grown and gathered as of old. There are even paved pathways through the fields to protect this wonderful crop. It's also the beginning of one of our favourite walks. I shall try to do better if I should try to depict the rest of the walk Read more: feltandfiberstudio.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=otherfibers&thread=126#ixzz1i9ntKSzE

I like it. Framing it would make a big difference too. It really is surprising what framing does for a piece. You shouldn't be so critical of yourself , we never like our own stuff as much as other people do .

I think it looks great. Trying to put too much detail in a small piece is difficult. I always try to keep my smaller pieces simple.

I like it too I agree about framing too. Even if you don't take photos, try looking at it on different coloured backgrounds-really makes a difference

Thanks for your comments and advice. I'll try again and cut down the detail.

I don't think there is too much detail - I think it's about right - and I like the colours. I would like to step into the picture because it looks so inviting.
The one thing that doesn't look quite right is the dead straight path right in the middle of the picture - it sort of cuts the bottom of the picture in two

That's true Lyn but i don't know if its the path itself or the combination of the path and that area of the picture being thinner and shorter. It draws to much attention to the beginning of the path. If that makes sense. I hope that's not to critical. I like the picture over all. I might add some stitching if you want a little more detail or to highlight an area but i like doing that.

Thank you all for your comments. Constructive criticism is good I've now double mounted it onto card of complimentary colours and hung it in my 'studio' ( for studio - read very small space, where I can leave all the mess without disturbing anyone!!!) The path is very straight I suppose and I did miss out the open sheep gate which may have lead one in - perhaps I ought to have used some artistic licence - will look at it again next spring in a different light!! I shall try to be like the Scottish spider of Rob Roy fame!!!!!!!!

I always feel free to use artistic license, change things up a bit and leave out odd parts that don't really fit in with the concept of how I see something.

I think the open sheep gate would look good - you could either needle felt it or stitch it.

Artist Trading Cards are very popular with fiber artists. I have made many of these and use a product called Peltex as a foundation. It can be stitched on and has adhesive on one side. It is made by Pellon.
