I'm so glad my tribe have left (of course, I love them all but these holidays were just too long) because I was so anxious take out my fiber again. The other day I bought some yarn with funny knobs and thought I might incorporate it into felt and make a scarf. This is what came out: I call it a rope scarf. I need to confess that I had to put some stitches here and there because the carrier rope of the yarn was made of some synthetic material and did not get attached to fiber. I placed only two layers of wool on the top: now I know that I should place some fiber underneath as well to allow the synthetic thread to get incorporated in felt. On the other hand there were no problems with the knobs since they were made of wool. My husband likes the scarf, I don't, but I believe it will find some end user.

That turned out great I love the colours and the textures. I keep seeing that kind of yarn, I think they call it 'pom pom' yarn here. I've thought about getting some, but I already have far too many commercial art yarns! If you just put wisps over the yarn, that will help anchor it, and the yarn will still show through, and even if it is loose in places, will still be firmly attached. Coppery Bronze felt by zedster01, on Flickr This one has a thicker layer of wool over the yarns Multi Blues Before felting by zedster01, on Flickr they don't show up quite so much, and the extra wool did affect shrinkage quite a bit Multi Blues After Felting by zedster01, on Flickr

I think it's very cool. My daughter would wear it for sure. What is it you don't like about it?
To get non wool fibers or a tightly spun wool fiber to stick down you can bridge it with tiny almost invisible wisps of fiber. You can add them as you are laying out. If the yarn is on the bottom as you can flip it after you have wet it and put the wisps on at that point. If it was me I would make felt areas and dry felt them. Just press down and wiggle a little and it will stick together enough to pick them up. Flip them over and put the yarn down and bridge them with wisps. or if they will be attached well enough with the wool parts just let the other yarns stick up.

Zed, Shepherdess, thanky you both for your comments and advice. In theory I knew that covering yarn with some wisps of wool would help but did not apply it here because I thought that it would come out all right. We learn by mistakes, don't we? Anyway, some stitching solved the problem.

I think it turned out great halay - I like the color combination and it's great that you learned from your experience. Nothing wrong with a bit of stitching either. I love to add stitching to my felt projects.

I think it looks great. Nothing like learning from experience - we are more likely to remember the rights and wrongs.

Yesterday I made another rope scarf, using the same yarn but different colours. This time I laid wool also underneath to make sure the ropes got felted in well. It's a little bit thicker but no too thick. I like this one better.

Halay both scarves turned out great. Very artsy! Yes, we all learn by trial and error. Less so being on is forum we get great advice from our experienced fellow felters! Sometimes it's just fun to experiment.
Zed, as usual your texture and colors are great. Do you have a plan on how youll use them?

I love that, Halay! Marilyn, I made a purse and glasses case out of my copper piece and a book cover for my friend out of the blue one.
