Yep, I finally did it. I finished the Autumn challenge. I call it Autumn Interpretations because it is an abstract interpretation of a photo.

Great Judy. I like the fabrics you chose. Is it fused or sewn together?

This one was pieced. I am preparing for another class and wanted a sample of photo interpretation color and design. This class takes place next spring. But I like to prepare my class samples ahead.

You've placed the fabric in such a clever way that it really looks like a 3D tree canopy - I feel that I could reach up into it. Wonderful interpretation of the photo!

Thanks Lyn. I usually do a preliminary layout just to get the look I want. Once that is in my mind, I checked out the proportions for the main elements. Sort of like a map. But from there I just do it intuitively. Also, I am going to be teaching how to use color photos to build your color choices. No color wheel. Abstracting from nature. Nature is an ultimate color wheel. This can be a quick class for those who don't want to spend a lot of time studying color.
I really found this enjoyable. Did it in one day.

Really nice Judy. Sounds like you were able to take more than one thing off your to do list with this project. It sounds like a good class, I'm sure your students will enjoy it. We'd love to hear about how the class goes next spring and see some photos of student work if you have the time.
