Hi all. some friends and I want to make some cat caves. something similar to a hollow rock with a flat bottom. I have an idea or 2 about how to do it but wondered how others would do it. My thoughts are to make a round ball and then stretch out the bottom. Or make it in 2 pieces leaving the edges unfelted and then attaching them and felting the edges together. I haven't really done this before with much success. I am to impatient probably.

I would try the round ball method.

I was thinking of starting flat and then opening it it up(I hate laying wool out on a ball) and blowing up a balloon or a ball inside it. the stretch out the bottom.

I was thinking starting flat would be easier too. I was thinking to shape it, stuff with microfibre towels or those sheet like cleaning cloths, maybe put one on the bottom and then something flat, then stuff the top to get an uneven cave like shape, or balloon if you want it smooth?

Its on my list to do after christmas. The list is getting long. I think it will have to be spread out a little.

I did a hat with a bottom in it and did it on a resist flet. I draw out the hat shape and added a extra bit at the bottom. It gave me corners, which I folded insdie the hat so they weren't see. When I do this again I am going to usre the same method but add a semi-circle (no corners). I think this will work out fine. x
