Fresh from reading Zed's book (highly recommended), I've been playing with using nuno and wet felt techniques to 'paint' in an abstract kind of way - also inspired by Catherine O'Leary (From Felt to Fabric book) and Moy Mackay (Art in Felt & Stitch book) as well as artists I love like Ray Reynolds and Laura Reiter. These are the little landscapes I've been making, I'm really enjoying this. island walk 1 by lovefibre, on Flickr island walk 3 by lovefibre, on Flickr island walk 2 by lovefibre, on Flickr

These are wonderful, Fiona. Don't take any offense but I think they are all calling out for a bit of stitching And I love how you've combined inspirations and made your own style.

These are wonderful, very tropical feeling. stitching would be nice but I like them the way they are too. I really like the sari silk with the treads all hanging off. You should post them in the nuno challenge as well there is only a little time left in it.

Thank you Ruth, Ann and Lyn for the comments and critique - some people call Tiree the Hawaii of the north so I'm pleased if I captured something of that.
Not offended at all, Ruth, working in isolation I'd see that as one of the strengths of a forum like this. I did think about adding stitch and the middle one has a little stitching. One of the artists I really like is Fiona Rainford, fi@84 on Flickr, I love the way she uses stitch on felt in a markmaking kind of way. I just thought as I looked at these that I couldn't see many places where I wanted to alter the surface. Would you highlight some areas with stitch or were you thinking more overall, like quilting?
I was about to ask how to add to the nuno challenge but I've found it, so will do that later on.

I think in a mark making way not in a traditional quilting way would be what I would like to see. Fiona Rainford's work is really good and very appealing.

Now I do see the stitch on the middle one. I was thinking in a mark making way. Perhaps just to highlight a certain area a little more to give a bit more of a focal point. But they are lovely as they are.

With these beautiful colors and texture, my mind goes to a little beading either as a focal point or as just a little embellishment.
