I see the offers for 6 mos. discounts on Ancestry.com. It looks like an unlimited access memberships costs about $150.00 per year. Does that sound right? A more limited access would normally cost 78.00 per year. But since my father's people all came from Romania, I would probably need the unlimited access. I would have to really think about these prices.

I don't do any of this type of stuff so I don't know what's usual on pricing. But that seems like a lot of money to me. Of course, I'm not all that interested so I can't imagine spending that enough time to make it worth it.

I suppose that it would depend on how interested my children are in all this. It is such ancient history right now. I am glad that I found my cousin. If for no other reason than we get to talk to each other before we leave this world. And that cost me nothing but a little time.

Judy have you checked that you have to pay to search the Romanian info on Ancestry? They do have some free info. Genealogy can get really expensive, if you are serious take a little bit of time to Google and see what free resources there are first.

Yes, I have been using the free sights and that is how I found my cousin. However, finding records for my Romanian roots have not turned up anything that I did not already know. Since this is only for my own curiosity, and my kids seem to preoccupied to care that much, I don't think I will spend the money on Ancestry. com. I will just continue using the free sights and see how far I can get. Divorce seems to be the biggest problem with researching people.

Judy a good source is the Mormons. It part of what they are supposed to do so they know there relatives when the meet them on the other side. My mother in law got a lot of information through them. Ireland can be very hard so many records where lost in floods and fires.

Yeah, familysearch.org is probably the best free site, and if you get the film number you can go into any LDS centre to look at the films and get prints.
I didn't bother much with my Irish lot because of that, Ann.

I did get some good information on the Irish side of the family from the free Genforum sight. But it did not go back any farther than 1761. Someone had done the research for me. I did try to find more one time when Ancestry had a free period of 2 weeks. However, I got nowhere in that time. There are Mormon churches here, but I don't know if they have research centers. And....I am asking myself if I have enough years left to live and devote to this. I will look at the familysearch.org. It's not like I have anything else to do.....lol

Judy only do it for yourself not someone else or you won't enjoy doing it.
