I asked people in my latest forum blog post how they thought I should position a wet felted mussel shell onto its background. I thought I should let you know what I decided. This little picture sold a couple of days ago. I have made a couple more, one mussel shell on a wet felted background with recycled silk & cotton knitted fabric wave, one paperfelt oyster shell painted with watercolours on a recycled silk background.

How did you do the last one Lindsay? It looks like a real shell, and I love the background too.

The oyster shell I made with a thicker strip down the middle so it domes when the wool shrinks. There’s mulberry paper felted into the surface (learned from a Fiona Duthie class) which means you can paint on the surface so this is painted lightly with watercolour pencils.
