Good morning from Maine! My name is Karen and I am new to felting this past year. I have fallen in love with stitching on my felts! Look forward to learning free motion techniques - from what I know so far, this technique takes LOTS of practice! Can't wait to get started and learn the proper way to put some control behind my free motion stitching.

Hello Karen and welcome to the forum. Stitching on felt is fun and it just takes a little practice - dive in! I always use stabiliser on the back of the felt to do machine free motion stitching as I find the results better than when not using it. You can use stitch-on or iron-on. Remember to lower the feed dogs and fit a darning foot. Before you start to stitch, bring the bobbin thread up through the felt so that both threads are on top then you won't get a tangled mess underneath. To pull the bobbin thread up through, here's a quick video from youtube: youtube linkAfter doing that, remember to put the presser foot lever back down before you start stitching - sounds obvious I know but it's easily forgotten when you're using a darning foot and then you wonder why the machine won't stitch properly.
