While I like to think that my felting is improving, one aspect defeats me : how to stop wrinkles when I roll my wet felt between two sheets of bubble wrap over a pool noodle or thick piece of dowel. Any advice/tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks Pam

Hello Pam - you could try using non-slip shelf liner, instead of bubble wrap, with your pool noodle when you're rolling - it looks like this... linkThe smoothest felt I can make is by laying down even layers of wool on the smooth side of bubble wrap, then using tepid soapy water to wet down, gentle agitation under net for several minutes on both sides (lifting the net regularly to prevent the fibres felting into the net) until the fibres are holding together well, then (no bubble wrap) rolling it in a bamboo blind (not a felters bamboo mat but a window blind with the fittings removed - the bamboo sticks are finer and closer together) turning the felt often. It takes ages because the felt is cold and rolling and unrolling the bamboo blind takes time, but it works for me. To sum up, the smoothest felt needs: even layers of wool, tepid soapy water, gentle agitation, then rolling until your arms drop off.

I find the inside of the roll can get a wrinkle in it but frequent opening and flipping and turning and smoothing helps. But at the end a rolling in shelf liner or in the woven plastic mats really is good. For Canadians Dollarama has the 2x6 foot ones for $4 and Costco has the large 5x8 foot ones for $18.

You have some good advice there. I still find it hard not to hurry things along too much but the best results for me are always start gently, build pressure slowly, turn and reshape very frequently and continue both the rubbing and rolling for longer than you think you need to. Hope it goes well.
