WOW! Just wow! It looks like she's laser cutting but even with that these would still take an age and a lot of skill! That makes sense why some look like burnt toast! You can get hand held laser cutters, but they are still kind of prototypes, I think and still not cheap, lots of fab/mad labs have them to use.

I have prefelt pieces form the Italian supplier. I thought they where dye cut but maybe laser or maybe they use a molds and needles to make each shape. I will have a closer look.

Zed, I had never heard of a fab lab but what a great idea. Sadly there seem to be none in the entire east of England at the mo.

Ah, that's a shame, Penguin. There might be similar ideas but under different names, 'maker spaces' is something I've seen mentioned too, just generic, not a brand or franchise.

I found a map of mad/fab labs and hacker spaces and maker spaces in the uk and east of England was blank! There are moves a foot to start something in Norwich. Amazes me that there appears to be nothing in Cambridge!

My bad, Cambridge has a hacker space. it's £40 per month to use it though! 😳 I wonder if you can join for one month!

How about a tool library or lending scheme? Or even well-being centres, they have a lot more than just knitting groups these days!

Maybe a Tool library or repair library. if you have a university in town they may have some sort of shared space.

We're in a tiny town - no uni, but Norwich, about 40 mins away, has a uni - don't have a tool library as far as I know though - but I will investigate at some point. It's not that I have an urgent need for a laser cutter - but I'd LOVE to play with one given a chance! :-)

Sorry I'm late to the convo. I actually own one of Lana Crooks' little bird skull sculptures! It's obviously made with commercial felt and I'm pretty sure she hand cuts all the pieces, or at least she used to. Not entirely certain what sort of adhesive she used but it's not felted together. A friend of mine is using a laser cutter for felt, tyvek and thin foam to make jewelry... pretty soon I'll have to ask her for a demo
