This Japanese Red Headed Crane picture is mostly wet-felted with some needle felt detail and a bit of free motion stitching. I used off-white merino wool in the background but bright-white merino wool for the body so that it would stand out.

Wow Lyn, he is wonderful! I love the wave-like blue, is it silks? The bright white makes him pop against the background, and you are so good at free motion, the tail area looks so feathery, it would look like a blob if I did it! Great detail all round, a real stand out piece!

Great detail all round, a real stand out piece! Thank you Tracey! Both the yellow and blue are mohair yarns felted into off-white merino - made a great texture. My plan was to hint at running water with the blue, and suggest a sky with the yellow.

Yep, the plan worked!
My brain would have come up with just blues with free motion waves, your way is better thought out and the end result more delicate.
Love his 'knees'!

Super, Lyn! Perfect composition and combination of various techniques. I like the way you used motion stitching to accent the contours.

Wonderful crane Lyn. You've achieved great movement in the water and there's just enough FME to bring him into the foregroud.

nuno felt abstract by catwycliff, on Flickr I chose to nuno-felt an abstract design for the 3rd Qtr Challenge. This artwork depicts Japan's policy of isolationism during the Edo Period. Silk scraps nuno-felted on white wool batt with hand-embroidery embellishment,

I like minimalist art and this fits very well with the challenge Cathy - the simplicity is beautiful.
(I'm learning a lot from this challenge. I've just read up on Japan's policy of isolation - I hadn't heard of it before.)
