I got the book that Lyn recommended the other day, I haven't had chance to do more than glance at the pictures so far, but I did get a tin of spray starch yesterday, so I thought I'd try some paper with that. I started with greaseproof paper and parcel paper becaue I couldn't get baking parchment, the greaseproof paper didn't work well, so I got some thin cotton cloth and used that. I sprayed the cotton, added a layer of fibres, sprayed that then added another layer, then a final spray. I put the cotton over the top and the parcel paper before ironing on hot. Thanks, Ruth and Pam I would have taken a photo of my first attempt-which blew all over the place when I sprayed but my hands were sticky and I rearranged it and made a new piece out of it

10 out of 10 for improvisation skills! I bet you're already thinking ahead about how to combine the lovely silk paper with felt? I only made the paper with the tutu net and paste method. Really messy but controllable. And it was so easy to stitch onto too.

Thanks, Judith Yeah, Dylon starch and silk. Thanks, Lyn I think the wallpaper paste one sounds better but I was impatient. I was thinking more along the lines of 'ooh, they're too nice to cut up '

Maybe all of us who try it could contribute to a post about it for the Studio site, a few photos and some words about the different techniques/methods we all used?

I tried using some potato starch paper from Lakeland. It's a Rice paper substitute which I originally bought to make macaroons! It works well for paper - also used it for Free Motion Stitching - not bad, but it can break up if stitches are very small - a bit too brittle. Macaroons stick round my middle so this is a much better use ! :0)
