I love your pebbles Jill!
There's a seller on Etsy that makes felt-stone rugs to order - some of them are enormous and I just think 'I'm not sure I'd have that much stamina'.

Your pebbles are fantastic. Would love a tutorial. 😀 How would you put them together for a rug? Thanks. They are quite fun to make, as you can play with the shape as you felt -I start with them in layers of bubble wrap, then think of it like washing hands with soap, rub them all over.
How will I put them together for a rug? I have no idea !! Either needle felting them into a backing fabric (I have a small piece of a mesh to try) or sewn together. We'll see, if I ever get enough!

Fantastic pebbles, Jill. I hope you don't lose interest since you need to have many for a rug. Here is a tutorial if any of you find it useful. www.livemaster.ru/topic/1172491-teplye-kamushki The pebbles here are actually felted into a wool base which has cotton gauze (or some other loosely woven material) on the bottom.

Jill the pebbles are great, I've seen these rugs, but never figured out this they are put together. A tut would be great. Let me know if you'd like to do one for the blog.

Marilyn, I'll be happy to do a tutorial if I ever get as far as making a rug... I think Nada knows me as she is quite right, I may well lose interest before then! I'll start taking some photos when I make the next batch of pebbles, but that won't be for a couple of weeks now.
Thanks for the link Nada, interesting idea to wet-felt them onto a base.

This artist, Martina Schuhmann, appears to attach the felt pebbles directly onto a type of canvas fabric - when the video is at 39 secs you can see it clearly. felt stone work

I didn't realize she was attaching it as a backing. Thanks for pointing that out.

At the very beginning of the video, when she lifts and shakes the rug, you can see daylight between the felt stones. So she definitely attaches the felt stones to the 'fabric'.

Nada, I've seen this but been never understood what the white things were. Foam? Yes she is using shapes cut out from foam, probably to save on wool

Thanks for sharing this video Lyn. I think Martina Schuhmann is also using foam in the stones, they look very soft.

I think you are correct Nada - the felt stones would not be so soft if they were made entirely of wool.

Another point to consider - the convenience of washing. If the pebbles are "solid" wool it will take ages to dry the whole rug after washing. If there is a foam inside you can wring the rug and dry it quickly. It was one of the points in favour of foam, the felter in Nada's link pointed out.
