I joined the Concertina Hat class from Teri Beri. I did not have as much time as I hoped for so I only made 2 hats during the course. I decided to continue making hats until I have worked out all the inspiring tips, tricks and examples Teri gave us. This is my third hat and a "free exercise" to my own design. My dear Husband thinks I must have the mad hatter virus for making a crazy hat like this but I like it a lot so I am not too much disappointed by his comment. myalbum.com/album/oHAQ2iIFH4Rk

Superb hat Madeleine. I particularly like how rigid and thick the spirals are. That obviously took you an awful long time to produce, enjoy it.
By the way what do we call the other embellishments that are not spirals? Spikes?

What a wonderful hat Madeleine! Don't pay attention to hubby's comments, they don't usually "get it".

Its a great hat I saw it on Facebook. Life needs fun and silly moments and hats. Think of all the smiles you will make.

Your creation is brilliant Madeleine! It has put a huge grin on my face and I'm sure anyone who sees you wearing it will smile too I know you are too modest to say but it takes a lot of planning to work out where to place the spikes and spirals so that they don't interfere with the folds in the finished hat, not to mention all the hours you must have spent making the spirals, you have done and amazing job - well done!

Yeah Teri, it took some planning and a bit of luck! Actually the making of the spikes and spirals was not very timeconsuming. I am a bit addicted to making spikes so I always make a lot of them in different sizes in advance. When I need them I only have to dip them in the dye pot to get the color I want.
