Hello everyone, one of the many ideas buzzing around in my head is one to make a lovely simple but substantial rug. My idea is a lovely grey maybe with a pattern of autumnal prefelt leaves. My question to you all please is which wool to use? It was suggested by a well known wool supplier to use either Shetland or Corriedale. Any thoughts would be most appreciated, thanks all.

I've never made a rug, but Deborah has and she uses Icelandic - here's her blog post: rug making

If you check her recent blog posts, I think she's made 3 rugs. Also, check out Zara's blog post: link

Thanks again Lyn. Loved the embellished black swirls on Zara's rug, hmmm, and maybe I could look on Freecycle for a trampoline....!

Lyn has given you some great links. Most people use a coarser wool to make rugs so it will hold up to the wear and tear of walking on it. I haven't made a rug though, just what I have read online.

Hi Ruth, yes one link used Icelandic wool to make their rug and I have read this is one of the best felting wools in the world. Lots of choice.
