Hi everyone, I am a new addict to the wonderful world of wet felting, but I am totally hooked! So far I have made flower brooches, landscape pics and calculated correctly first time (!) the resist to cover a vase. My question to you all please is regarding making a bag. I successfully made a cross body bag with flap and felted rope handle, but if you wish to make a bag with more depth, how is that done? I have seen one site where a 1" deep piece of foam is used, but that will still limit the side size I am guessing. Any help at all would be gratefully received, thanks.

Hello Tracey and welcome to the forum!
If I wanted to make a felt bag with a lot of depth, I would make 'yardage' i.e. I would make a large, very strong, piece of felt then cut and stitch a bag.

Welcome Tracy do share you bag with us when your done and maybe some of your other work as well.
Nada great pictures of how to make and use gussets. Do you have any idea how to save things like that in google plus? I shared it but I don't seem to see how to save it so I can find it later. or how to share outside of google plus. I never use google plus as you can probably tell.

They're beautiful Tracey! I like the way you've variegated the colours in the vase cover and made 'petals' at the top, and the pod is so sweet with its green 'collar'.

Oh thank you Lyn, so kind of you to comment. As I said the vase cover was my very first attempt, the calculations involved Pi!, oh and winging it a lot, so surprised that it fitted like a glove....

Hi Tracey, welcome to the forum I've made a couple of satchel type bags, the most recent, I did like Lyn suggested, though it was all stitched up with offcuts, then sewn together. I did do a little camera case in a similar way years ago, maybe this is some help: www.flickr.com/photos/zedster01/albums/72157618012812841The other way, I just added in the depth to the calculations for the sides and length of the flat resist, then shaped the bag to include the depth, I'm not sure you can tell much from these photos, but here it is: feltingandfiberstudio.com/2014/04/16/felt-shoulder-bag/

Hi Zed, thanks for the lovely welcome and the bag info. I am waiting for more lovely wool to arrive and then I will jump in and have a go, and fingers crossed it will be good enough to post a pic in a short while.
