OK it is official - I am weak where it comes to fibres and fabrics. Went to town yesterday to buy some bias binding and came home with over 20 metres of fabrics. EEK. There went my budget for the month. Trouble was - there was a big table of markdown fabric and one was a Taupe chantilly lace I have looked at before and put off as too expensive - It originally was $24.95 a metre, the markdown was to $8.00 so I thought "OK I'll get 2 metres". Got to the counter with the roll and the lady said if I take the whole amount on the roll I could have it for $4.00 a metre!! What does one do? There were 13.5 metres left so it is now in my stash alongside some printed chiffons (only 3 metre lengths of those...and I did eventually get to the bias too.LOL I will use the chantilly lace with some beige rovings I have coming and make a coat - I even dreamed of it last night! LOL Oh My I need to be busy.!!

That's a lot of fabric, Chookie, more than enough for a coat! It sounds lovely, very adventurous, do show us it done. I've felted just the bottom edge of lace into felt, to make lace ruffles, that works nicely.
I got some fabric stash this weekend too - at my local outdoor market a stall had a big pile of bolts of fabric, from now closed Greek fabric mills, it had been in a warehouse for a long time, looks like it was made 20 years ago! The good news is they were selling for just 2 Euros a meter, bargain! I bought about 15 m, for E26 (he rounded it down). I got some good cottons for quilting, a couple for my patchwork chair project & some I couldn't resist. Don't think there was any silk, unfortunately! I was also very tempted by a stall with original 1970's little girls dresses - with the labels on; I was trying to work out if I could sell them on Ebay or something as they could be uber-trendy in London.

Yes Jill don't you just love finding some bargains like that. Yours sounds like a great find too. Yes the little girls dresses would probably sell well on Ebay. The lace will be shared with a friend and at least 3-4 metres for the coat. I am also playing withte idea of making a dress for my granddaughter's upcoming wedding. The Taupe colour is just lovely and would make a nice dress & jacket combo with a copper/bronze coloured lining...if only I could sew well.Everything I ever make looks like it.LOL

Fabric shops can make anyone weak at the knees and loose with the purse strings.

You hit the nail on the head Lyn, although my other half appears to be immune... He groans whenever I spy a textile shop and drift into the drooling, zombie like trance that innevitably leads to me driving home with a sack full of goodies and a huge grin on face

Sue and Jill, You absolutely did the right thing! Passing up those bargains would be criminal, to my mind. ;-)) You will have plenty of opportunities to use up your purchases. We are with you! Fiber enthusiasts stand united!!

Jill, I am just finishing off the Vest I showed last week , it has lace as a backing (Black &white). Will take a pic once I get the facings done...nearly there.Wish I had someone to model it for me - one of the negatives of isolation.....one of few I find.
My felting buddy Marlene is many sizes smaller so even if she calls in it won't work - but maybe a neighbour might help out if I see one? (sometimes I go a week without seeing a soul - thank goodness for you folk!)

Sue your vest sounds so interesting, I hope you are pleased with this one after all your work. We don't mind a selfie taken in a mirror! Or perhaps your camera has a timer so you could put it on a table & run round the front? You may feel daft but we won't laugh!

Sue, can you post a pic of the lace? What is the material? I've been hesitant to buy large amounts of lace for fear that it would not felt. I had some scraps that I tried to felt once, and I swear that the holes were quite large, but the fibers would NOT migrate thru. I had to rip it all off. In hindsight I should have tried needling it, or embroidery as a last result. Do let us know how it turns out!

Have you tried laying very fine whisps of wool over the lace Elizabeth? This helps to anchor down even the most hard to felt synthetic lace.
