I just made a sample using similar layout and same technique/rolling etc but at a size of 60 x35cm (24" x 14") will measure it again when I finish it and dry it.

Sue, cutch is a powder derived from steeping the bark of the "Acacia catechu,” a tree that grows in India, Myanmar, Peru and Indonesia. When I dyed wool in cutch it turned a beautiful caramel color, but on cotton a lovely soft rose.
Ann, I really just like experimenting with natural dyes. I am also preparing for a series of on-line natural dye classes which I’ve agreed to teach on the Forum!

Chookie, I make a 10" square. Make sure you make a note of which is width and which is length of your sample so you will know which way to lay out your final project.

I always make ten inch squares for samples.

I always make ten inch squares for samples. Me too Marilyn, it makes the shrinkage calculations easier - just move the decimal point. Much better for non mathematicians like me.

Thanks everyone, there was method in my madness in the size of my sample.I wanted to use it as a pixie bonnet if it turned out ok - and it did. But at 30% shrinkage only, so not the same as the vest at all, though I thought I did everything the same.
Thanks Cathy - I thought I may be able to add it to my garden, but not if it grows in more tropical climates. Interesting though .I wonder if other Acacias give color? hmmmm

Sue--you just never know what will work till you try it! I’ve been amazed at some of the eco-prints I’ve achieved with the lowliest garden plants. It’s so fun to experiment!

Yes Cathy in my never-done-it-before days I took a half day eco print course at a local community centre and they said to bring rose and Eucalyptus Cinerea leaves.Well roses I had, but the Euc doesn't grow here so I just grabbed what I thought might be ok (knowing nothing at the time)and got some really good prints from my Geum leaves- amazingly clear. Not so good on the fern leaves though they did give a trace of print. Some other Euc leaves worked ok too so in all it was good first learning experience - and got me hooked.I then raced off to local op shops(goodwill) trying to find old plain cream wool blankets and large aluminium boilers....and found them too! LOL

Good for you Sue! I've never heard of Guem, Eucalyptus doesn't grow here either. I haven't had good results with eco printing. But I'm glad you did.

link this is a link to a Geum flower. Easy to grow perennial, haven't tried to dye with the flowers yet but the leaves print well in Eco dye printing.

Ideas needed, I have just heard that the Fibre Forum I will attend for 5 days in September is having the theme of Blossoms,Button and Bows. Have made a few blowsy blossoms to put on a hat but want to some ideas for combining it all into something I can wear, or several somethings perhaps - all I can think of is those British people who wear buttons all over their clothes- stuck in tunnel thinking here.
I have plenty of buttons (Literally thousands that I planned on using for an artwork that hasn't yet happened). Ribbons galore, and can make more blooms in felt but what do I do with them? Sometimes the harder I try to think the less ideas I have.

Thanks Sue! The geum is a pretty flower. Can you incorporate Flowers into a vest or scarf, perhaps make flower pins. I'm sure you'll come up with a variety of of ideas. Most anything can use a flower. :-)

I have seen some really cute felt flowers with buttons on them and I'm sure you could add ribbons. You could make a bunch of flowers and connect them into a "lei" or flower necklace to wear.
