I'm hoping that some of you with Wordpress sites will have already figured this out - I have 2 problems I hope you can help me with please....
1: The comment box does not automatically appear at the bottom of the post, even if someone else has already left a comment. Instead you have to scroll all the way back up to the top of page, find the very discrete "comments" link and click it (it does at least take you back down to the bottom of the page when you click it). I suspect there must be a plug in or template / theme that will automatically do this but I haven't had any success with the dozen or so themes I have tried so far.
Which theme do you use?
2: I have a plugin which allows readers to subscribe to receive blog posts by email, this is all very nice and appears to be working well except it doesn't include a link back to the blog for those who wish to leave a comment. I have tried 3 different plugins so far and none have included a link
Do you have a magic plugin that includes a link on emailed posts?
Thanks in advance for you help (apologies my questions aren't really textile related but I know lots of you have textile blogs)
Tx

Teri I use the free version - have you been on mine and are you able to make comments. I know I get them occasionally. What is your wordpress address so I can follow you. Thanks Frances

Hi Frances I'm not sure your blog is loading correctly, when I follow the link in your footer it takes me to a post you wrote on July 4th - is that the last post you wrote?
I can't see how to leave a comment on your blog at all - if I click on the 3 dots I can see the last few comments people have left but can't see how to add my own? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Yes that is the last post - my husband got sick in July and passed away in September and I have not used the blog since then - I plan to start it back up again.
I don't know because when I load my blog I do not see anyplace to leave a comment either I thought maybe it would showe up differently for you.
What is your wordpress address - I went to teriberry.com but that does not look like a wordpress account .

I commented on an old post on tissue holders - have no idea why of all the pages I looked at it was the only one I could comment on

Let me do a little research and I'll get back to you. Wordpress changes things around so often that it is hard to determine what's going on sometimes.

Ah yes, I already discovered they removed the facility to keep links for a blog roll in one of their "updates", I found a plugin specifically designed to restore the functionality the WP developers removed - absolutely barmy!

In the dashboard, what do you have checked under settings - discussion section?
That is where I find everything about comments. I do think the theme makes a difference on how the comments are shown. We use an old theme Twenty Ten. We haven't changed themes because we are used to this one and it works for us.
I have noticed that all the newer themes seem to hide where the comments are. Not sure why.

Thanks Ruth, I did spend a bit of time going through the discussion options when I first set it up and made it as open as possible (turned off options like closing the comment option after X days for example).
I suspect you are correct, it is the theme which is messing up the comment options. I will give twentyten a try and see what happens....

Frances, I can't see anywhere on your blog which shows comments, and when I click on a post, I can't see any way of leaving a comment or seeing if there are comments left by others. Oh, hold on, it's the lay out. I clciked to see a different pist and the page jumped down a bit showing a comment. The design shows tags, then how to share and link then a line, which gives the impression it is the end. Under that links to a previous post, and then under that it says 'one thought on...' but you still have to scroll really far to see how to reply.
Teri, your blog design just shows one post per page for me, and at the top of the post/page it says how many comments there are. There is still too big a gap between the comments and comment box (in my opinion) but it is more obvious.

On Zed's point about one post per page, you really should have more post so people can just scroll down. That's easier than clicking on older posts each time. We show 10 posts per page on ours.

I'm not sure why but if I click through to the studio blog from my blog roll I can only see the most recent post but if I follow the links in your post footers I can see multiple posts. It's a good point and say for me to fix - thanks!
Frances I wonder if your comments box isnt showing because the disable posts after 14 days box is checked under discussions? While that limits the spammers there are other ways around that such as holding comments for moderation until the commenter has had at least one comment accepted, just a thought.

Wordpress catches most of the spam anyways. We get tons of spam but just delete it once a day from the spam catcher.

If you scroll down far enough as Zed said you get to a comment box - also if you click on "Like" a message pops up asking if you want leave a comment.
