Using a resist is fun. We are all at different levels but it's definitely worth a try no matter what level you're at. I like to challenge myself as well, but have no clue what I'll do yet. :-)

So far keeping up with my Daily Dose - Sunday gathered together all my roving in shades of lavender and purple - my least favorite colors - but the teens seem to wear it a lot. On Monday I made a scarf with squares as the design. Then on Tuesday I made one with random swirls and it is different on each side. Hope the granddaughters like them. I need to make one more for their Mom. Today I made something with a resist. Will post it in the appropriate spot later. Blocks Side 1 swirls side 2 swirls

The scarves you made are very pretty, Frances. I love the colors and think the recipients will love them!

Wow you have been busy Frances, I'm sure the "teens" will love them, I wear a lot of purple and would very happily add either one to my wardrobe.

Pig Slippers - Love 'em! They are great, even have squished in noses. Are you using leather soles & are they non-slip?

Nice scarves, Frances I love the slippers, Nada! My son saw me wearing the ones you made me last night and said 'They look so comfy!' and he hates wool, fibres make him shiver!

I hope I am not deterring anyone from having a go at the challenge with my nutty ideas. If you are new to felting and have never made a felt vessel or bag please, please have a go. I am the first to admit that I like to push the boundaries of what is technically possible (and I often fail), what is so great about this forum is the very different approaches that everyone takes for the challenges, I'm always impressed that it is usually the simple idea, executed well that is the most beautiful. Rest assured my hat will be ugly (it currently resembles an oversized fake turd (poo)). I know what you mean about pushing the boundaries - I've had several brilliant ideas that didn't translate into felt at all! For those that have done a lot of resist work, maybe think of using a different kind of resist for the first time? Frinstance, I've never made a wet-felt vessel over a balloon. Hmmmm. Worth a thought. Edit - Frances has just pointed out that the challenge is for FLAT resist. Oo-er. How did I miss that instruction? Re-think.

Oh, Zed, are you still wering those slippers? Actually the should last for at least two years with everyday use. Jill, I always use leather on soles (diferent kinds) and its is non slippery. Leather will also prologn the life of your slippers.
As for this quarter challenge I used a different resist for my pig slippers, so perhaps this is it. My next project is a poncho for a little girls which means a different resist too. I'll post about it.

Love the slippers - I should make some for myself - I have been very successful using balloons or a blow up ball as a resist although the challenge says flat resist. Even if a flat resist is used inserting a balloon after the resist is taken out to shape and shrink an item is very useful for me. I insert the balloon, inflate it, place item in mesh lingerie bag, run hot water over it and then put in dryer with heat. Will have to step away from fiber today - need to gather up model trains to take to a Garden Railway meeting on Saturday. My hubby and I had a garden railroad for years that has been dismantled and I need to dispose of some rolling stock and Engines. Moving on with life and its changes but keeping the memories.

The cat cave chart is very helpful, Nada! And it confirms my suspicions that I did not use enough wool for my cat cave. Somewhere I had read that 10 ounces of wool was sufficient for a medium sized cat cave, but according to your chart--that’s not even enough for the smallest cat cave. And yes, Teri--I could have just added more wool if that was the only mistake I had made. ;-( But I also neglected to trim the corners of the rectangular resist I used. Late in the process I remembered I wanted an oval-- but I ended up with soggy bits, added fibers that did not felt properly.
I wil try again when I am finished kicking myself.
Love the slippers, Nada, and Frances’ scarves!

Frances, I have never tried the balloon as resist and I shy away from using machines for felting/fulling. Might be worth a try, though!
That’s an awesome train setup! Good to recycle.

Cathy, It's very therapeutic to read posts on failures by a "Goddess"! Gives me hope. Happy memories, Frances. Hugs, too. I love the purple scarves and the "resisted" flower is very interesting. Thanks for the write-up on how you did it. Nada - beautiful!
