It's shearing time here in Sweden, and I have just bought a number of Gotland fleeces from a farm in a neighbouring village. It's a certified ecological farm and the sheep are pure Gotland. The fleeces vary in colour, from light (silvery) grey, to medium grey, to dark grey (more or less black). Some are dark with sunbleached, white tips. The length and shape of the locks also vary, both between and within fleeces.
Is anyone interested in buying samples from these Gotland fleeces?
1) A bag of 100g (approx. 3.5 oz), either from one fleece (light, medium or dark grey), or mixed from different fleeces (with locks of varying colour and shape).
2) Three bags of 100g (= 300g in total), with locks from different fleeces in each bag (e.g. light, medium vs dark grey).
The locks will be raw/unwashed, but selected from the best part of the fleece and contain very little to no VM (see photos, which are a representative sample).
Prices within the EU (incl. 25% VAT): €7 or £5 per 100g + shipping: €6.20/£4.50 for 100g, €10.80/£7,80 for 300g
Prices outside the EU (taxfree): $6 per 100g + shipping: $7.20 for 100g, $12.50 for 300g
Payments can be done through PayPal invoices (which means that I can e-mail an invoice that can be paid by credit card or PayPal account). The "PayPal fee" is included in the price of the wool, as is packaging material and "administrative costs". ;-)
Other (larger) quantaties of fleece can also be arranged (as long as I still have fleece left to sell).
If you are interested, feel free to send me a message (PM) through this forum. :-)
I'll post the photos next!

More detailed photos, with measuring tape in cm. And a photo of a 100g bag of locks to give a visual idea of the amount. Gotland locks by -TuulikkiR-

You have everyone drooling Zara! the prices sound reasonable and you've certainly done your homework for all the administrative business. Good luck! I have a feeling the fleece won't last long. :-)

I am drooling just looking at the photos, I am so tempted (especially by the black one) but I bought a whole Gotland fleece at Woolfest just a couple of months ago, I probably should make use of that (and the 3 BFL fleeces) first before I fill up the garage with more.
Out of curiosity, do you have any whole black fleeces for sale? If so, how much are you asking for them?

The locks are beautiful, Zara. Since I’ve been drooling over them for sometime, I will pm you for an order. ;-)

Out of curiosity, do you have any whole black fleeces for sale? If so, how much are you asking for them? I actually bought 15 fleeces, and 3 of them are very dark (at least one black, the other may be very dark grey) and 3 were dark/black with light (sunbleached) tips. I have only just started dipping into them, so I do have whole fleeces to sell. :-)
The black/darkest fleeces are probably from lambs born last spring (Gotland are born black and turn grey later), which means the fleeces are smaller and staple length may be a bit shorter. It´s also only the best parts of the fleeces (i.e. back, sides and front part, if in good condition), which would be the equivalent to a well skirted fleece. (You cannot "skirt" a Gotland fleece in the true sense, as the fleece does not hold together in one piece. Instead, you sort the wool as you shear the different parts of the sheep.) The fleeces (or rather, the best parts of the fleeces) weigh around 1 - 1.5 kg.
I can take some photos of the darkest fleeces tomorrow and e-mail them to you (you could write your e-mail address in a PM to me). I have not decided on a price for a whole fleece yet, but obviously, sending 1-1.5 kg means a lot less "handling time" compared to sending bags of 100g, so I should be able to offer you a reasonable price. Shipping up to 2 kg within the EU is just over £17.

Hope I can get it fixed soon so I can place an order. You do not have to have a paypal account to pay the invoice. It is sent to your e-mail address and there is an option to click a button and pay by credit card. It's the first time I have used PayPal invoices, but so far I'm impressed by how simple it is to use, and worth the fee I'm charged for it (3.4% of the sum invoiced). Overseas bank transactions can be rather tricky otherwise.

They really are, Jill. I just got mine a few days ago, and they are so, so gorgeous. They are the best locks I've ever had, so clean and separate and the shine is gorgeous!

Thanks Zed! :-) I was just about to write that I really would appreciate feedback from those of you who have ordered locks, when you have received them. It would be really interesting to hear how these locks compare to whatever raw locks you have bought from other sources. And a note about the length of the locks. In Sweden most people shear their sheep twice a year, which is recommended here for animal welfare. These fleeces are from lambs, probably born in April this year, or from young ewes who were sheared in the spring. These fleeces have thus only been growing from early spring until autumn, sheared a couple of weeks ago. This obviously limits the staple length, but also means you are only getting the higher quality summer fleece. :-)

I think your photos speak for themselves, Zara That is exactly what you receive. It isn't like the fleece sellers on Facebook who pull off a few locks to show it's like a whole pack of handpicked locks, beautiful quality.
