Hi Everyone, Don't you just love the ambience when Felter's get together. I first did a felting workshop six years ago in the Uk but work and "things" got in the way until I retired. Now I have time to play and boy am I loving it. I am off to NZ for the Felting Convergence on Sept 27th so if anyone else is going please get in touch, would love to meet up. I will arrive in NZ on the 22nd so I can get a feel for the fibres and find some good places....do you know any I should see in Auckland? Please let me know. Thanks for the welcome, Chookie

Oops thank you all for the welcome, sorry to be so tardy in responding.I didn't get a notice that anyone had responded so didn't come back here until now---too busy checking out all the other wonderful threads. Ruth, I will happily take pics and write about the Convergence. Will email you.
Jane, I have found a list online of Fibre shops in Auckland so have it printed out, but don't know how many are wool shops and how many fibre until I get there and find them.I just googled "fibre suppliers in Auckland" so some will be ok I hope.
The Convergence is getting closer a only two weeks to go.I posted off my scarf swap last week and have my hats made, just a bag and another wrap to go. Today's felting is for the "Sea & Sky " theme for the Tuesday of the Convergence. My bag is getting overfull ,I may need to go up a size so I have space for shopping coming home.LOL I want to get some of my handmade soaps felted as gifts too...time is getting short. I am off to a dyeing workshop this Sunday too- who knows what that will produce.LOL Again my thanks for the welcome, aren't Felter's just the nicest people!

Hi Chookie, how did the dye workshop go? Sounds like you have been busy getting ready for the Felting Convergence and I guess you will be heading over soon. I am getting very excited and just can't wait it will be such fun!this time next Friday I will be up in AuckLand. Did you ask about getting some NZ Lichen "Sticta Coronata" for natural dyeing while you are here? My husband is off tramping this weekend and I have asked him to look out for any along the way. You may have boarder control after you with fresh stuff though. I checked at one of the stores down here and sell the dried lichen for NZ$8.50 per 100grms they also take online orders and have posted Australia no problem. Here is a link to their website www.handscraftstore.com/Hope your adventures in Auckland go well and look froward to meeting you at Convergence. Happy Felting Jane

Hello Sue, it was so lovely to connect up with you at the NZ Feltmakers Convergence. I recognised your yellow hat on the first day but did not get a photo. Did manage a shot of you and your beautiful hat and vest for the scarlet theme on the last day. Hat magic, I recognise that hat! by janekiwi, on Flickr

LOL Jane,It was great to meet up with you . The hat did stand out but there were so many great wearables on each theme day weren't there Jane? The first theme day was "Sunshine " and the Auditorium glowed in sunshine yellows, blues, mauves and oranges. Next day was Sea and Sky - a little more muted with aquas, blues and greens predominant, but the hats ! oh hats to die for galore ! To say nothing of every item of clothing or accessory you could think to wear- what peacocks we were! LOL
Next day was "Clean Greens" and some of those greens were totally outstanding,it was like being in a fairy forest with every imaginable shade of green on view plus flowers embroidered and felted in between..and the hats! Lastly there was "the Scarlet Woman" Theme and yes there were reds in every shade as you can see in the background of my hat above. The vest was not such a success as I couldn't get the armholes to sit right but it was fun anyway and began as a beautiful piece of fabric that shrank and shrank until from 2x3 metres until I ended with just 18x36 inches of felt. so a vest it was to be.
