I truly believed that when I got older I would be a lady of wealth and leisure - casual pale coloured suit, big hat and out to lunch every day in a posh restaurant. Ha-ha. The reality is that over the last few months I've been running just to be able to stand still! So it was a huge relief to find the time to play. I made a large piece of multi-coloured felt (patterned on both sides) and spent hours and hours at the sewing machine tranforming it into a fish bowl. The randomly coloured felt works well - just by turning the bowl an inch or two, the effect is slightly different. Here's some pics - one shows the bowl reflected in a mirror to demonstrate that it could be displayed on a glass shelf. To give you an idea of scale (no pun intended) each fish measures nearly 5" and the centre is 4" in diameter.

Wow, Lyn! That is epic! You really do know how to create gorgeous multi coloured felt without it looking tacky. And the design idea and execution is perfect

Awesome fish bowl, Lyn! The colors and the texture, the stitching and design--all terrific! Is it self-standing? What a grand present that would make for a fisherman!

I love the bowl, it's so cheerful and photographing it on a mirror so you can see both sides is inspired!

Yes, it's self-standing. There are no stiffeners needed when you machine stitch into felt that is fulled (but not completely otherwise it's too stiff to stitch into).

I love the bowl, it's so cheerful and photographing it on a mirror so you can see both sides is inspired! Thank you! The mirror thing took a bit of jiggling. When we first put it on the lawn we had reflections of shubbery in it, so we pulled it out to the middle of the lawn and then I realised that I had to be careful not to get myself and camera in the shot. There was a perfect white cloud sky with the brilliant summer sun behind it, so the light was great and the reflection of the sky in the mirror made a great backdrop.

Really interesting work, Lyn, I love how the coloured felt looks like the fish are sparkly, & the stitching is so perfect. Love it, a special bowl.

Great fish bowl Lyn. It must had taken some planning to get the fish the right size to go around the base just right. Did you sew the fish patterns and then cut them out or did you cut it then sew it? and dare I ask you much ripping out and redoing you had to do? Something like that would take me a month of Sundays to work out and sew.

Yes, I did plan carefully before I started - I couldn't leave to chance that the fish would fit neatly round a circle. It was sewn in one piece then cut out (tricky in parts).
