I am completely inspired by all the threads about felted purses, apart from the thread Frances put up I can't remember who else said what, so please any advice would be very welcome.
I have ordered the clasps with the decorative holes in for sewing in the felt, I have a memory I think it was Marylin mentioning using gauze, never used it in felting so advice there would be great.
In my head I am planning a resist - I am thinking 1/3rd larger than the size I actually need - am I OK so far?
I am also planning a lining and maybe a pocket.
I have seen some where the felt is much larger than the clasp as it makes an interesting shape - has anyone got any pics of purses they have made using clasps.

Do you mean purse as in what you keep money/cards in etc, or a bag?

This is where I get confused Zed, it could be a purse as in coins - size, then again I did see one a bit bigger but still using the same size of clasp - I have a few clasps so I could play with different sizes.

What breed of wool are you planning to use? Shrinkage rates are different depending on breed, layers of wool, what else you add in etc. Most people use the gauze or fabric in between layers of wool to add strength to the bag. Nada uses her fabric as an inside lining. So she uses that as the first layer and then adds the wool. I have never used a clasp on a bag so no help there. Good luck.

I have done self lining bags. The gauze or silk is the first layer then the wool. If you want a pocket that is made at the same time you do that using a small resist on top of the larger one. As Ruth said Shrinkage depends on the wool. Best to do a sample with the wool and fabric you intend to use to make sure. Remember holes always get bigger and you can always cut them larger later but never smaller. as for the clasp I haven't used one so someone else will have to help there. Can't wait to see what you do

Thank you everyone for your ideas, it'll probably be merino - I'm not very adventurous with my fibres but I'll add silks and others grgeousness as decoration. I've checked out the sites, I have actually seen them before but had completely forgotten where, I appreciate the reshare, full of ideas now, but still no closer to the clasps - I think I have to experiment.

I think it was Frances who mentioned the clasps, I don't know if anyone ever posted pictures of finished ones though, is that what you meant, Carole?
I've thought about getting the smaller ones for glasses cases.

Hey, that turned out wonderfully. How was the stitching on of the clasp and fitting to the clasp? Was it fiddly?

Very nice Carole, it's hard to believe that it's only your first attempt, well done! Would you recommend the stitch in place type of frame?

The clasps are a bit fiddly but not too bad, I've ordered more Teri and some a little larger, they do leave exposed stitches so that's why I embellished with beads. I think the white was merino Marylin, yes it has to be as I don't have any white silk left. There is also some blue voile in there as I was trying to nuno too........ throw it all in - that's me :-) It's larger than a glasses case it's 18 cms x 13 cms
