So many decisions to make! It’s difficult to narrow down the list. I’d like to choose them all but must be realistic.

Maybe you should think about what you want the wool for, then it's easier to make the decision, or get proper advice. The scoured wool is good for texture and interest. The BFL has tiny little zig-zag locks, the blue and yellow at the bottom here: Needlefelted by zedster01, on Flickr Scoured/washed wool is just nice for adding to batts if you want texture, or using as surface texture/design. So it isn't just flat. This has a variety of scoured wools on as surface design: Natural white wools and fibres-after felting by zedster01, on Flickr

Great samples Zed! Did you dye the scoured/washed in the first photo? Lovely bright colors!! Was any of the scoured shown in your two photos “botany waste?” I really like felting with texture and so tend to gravitate to coarser wools. I will be adding scoured wool, maybe waste, to my WOW order.
BTW, Marilyn and I have not placed our order yet simply because we cannot decide what to buy and how much and whether or not to share!!!

Yeah, I think those were from my first dyeing experiments.
No, I've never got any of the Botany Waste, I think it's mostly Merino/blends and tops. If I tried it, I'd get the white, it looks like it has more fibres and there's more chance of a bigger variety of breeds.
The scoured/washed wools will definitely add texture then while still felting in well.
Have you tried Silk Noil? That's really nice for texture and cheap too.
I'd just write down everything you want, work out the price, then weight, plus postage, then whittle it down if you really have to. I know we were joking about wollknoll and spending/saving more, but if you just compare a few of the common items with prices in the US, you'll see just how much you're saving.
When I did the price comparisons last year (year before) some things, (e.g.bamboo, ramie) were up to 36 times the price of WoW.
Oh, and the price that's listed is the price you pay...I just went to Paradise, it listed bamboo as $1.82 an ounce, you click it, it's only that price if you buy 16oz, it's $2.75 otherwise.
Paradise Bamboo: $11 for 4oz that's $9.82 for 100g WoW 100g Bamboo: $4.50
Paradise Flax: $10.20 for 4oz ... $9.10 per 100g WoW: $2.78 per 100g
Paradise: Ashland cultivated silk noil $8.64 per 100g WoW Tussah silk noil $3.90
That's $16.38 savings on 3 items, a few more and you've paid your shipping.

Wow, Zed, thanks for the comparisons. We did start out with a list and have gone back and worth about what we want and what we can get locally. It's exhausting. Since Cathy is working right now and I'll be traveling, I think we're going to wait a little longer.

Zed, you really ought to get commission from WoW ! Have to say they are my favourite supplier.

You're welcome From what I remember silk top was very cheap at WoW compared to others. Oh, and Hankies and throwster's waste. Maybe it's easier if you ask World of Wool for a complete list of everything they sell, then knock off what you can live without. For now Ha ha, Judith I was thinking the other day, we're so loyal...until the Euro dropped and we all went to woolknoll!

WAIT, Zed, do you mean that what’s on WOW is not their whole list? OMG, that was a mistake for me to hear, because now I want to know about ALL of the goodies they have. I remember reading about your survey of WOW pricing sometime ago and always had that in the back of my mind. For some reason, we are having a difficult time getting over the shipping rates. $22 USA for 1 kg.

Zed - Wollknoll is just a temporary blip. Like Blackpool rock, I have WoW stamped right through the middle.

Cathy that's $10/lb so not really much more than sipping from inside the states depending on the state is comes from. the difference in price eats up the difference fast.

In the US Postal service postage is based on size of package and weight unless you use a Priority Mail Flat Rate Box - they come in sizes small medium and large. Medium Flat Rate Box $12.85 regardless of weight and is 11" x 8-1/2" x 5-1/2". If the supplier uses shrink wrap packaging (gets the air out of the bag and compresses the product)a lot of roving can be shipped in one box. This is also 2 to 3 day delivery.

No, Cathy! I just meant, get them to send you a list ... like a shopping list, instead of you going page to page. I was just being silly, thinking it's easier to mark off what you don't want versus what you do $20 shipping is nothing. Paradise may charge you just $5 flat rate, but it adds the rest on to your fibres, and with a small order, you're absorbing the shipping costs of people who order a lot and only pay $5, that's not really fair is it? Anyway, you just theoretically saved $16 buying bamboo, ramie and silk noil. If you'll save an equivalent amount for every 3 items, that means on a 1kg package of 10 items, you just saved yourself $53. The postcard Judy sent me cost almost $10 to send. Is the only wool they have at Paradise the Ashland bay stuff? I can't find anything else. Masham: $6.92 per 100g WoW: $2.70 "Firestar" $8.10 per 100g WoW: $3.38 21.5 white Merino: $9.35 per 100g wOw: $3.15 Gotland: (special price) $9.46 per 100g (usually $12.50) WoW: $2.40 There you go, another $22.20 savings. If you bought just those 7 items from WoW, you'd have saved $38.58, Even if you paid your $22 shipping out of that, you'd still be $16 better off. I honestly did a lot of extensive research for my comparisons, far more than I showed on the blog. I didn't compare wollknoll at the time, but I did more than 1 company in each country, and even with WoW shipping prices added on, nowhere was cheaper. I never even got around to adding shipping on for other companies.

Zed - Paradise has tons of different fiber and wool choices. They probably don't show it all on the website. I do agree that they are more expensive than WOW.

Zed and all, I’m convinced WOW is a good deal for us, even with shipping. Now Marilyn and I just have to agree on what we will order and when! In the meantime, my list keeps growing!
