I have made silk paper before - actually that is how I got started in fiber arts was with silk paper. I have also made paper with recycled ground up paper towels. I made that into a small book.
Your silk paper looks good.

Looks good. I made some in a workshop with the glue. I wonder how it would work if you mixed cut up silk with paper mush/soup for making paper the regular way. they used to add cotton fibers. or put a silk hanky on the screen and then add the paper mush/soup.

As a younger me, I was a handmade papermaker using cottons, banana, kozo and many other plant materials to make paper. It wasn't until I got interested in felting that I made silk paper. I haven't used it for writing but have felted with it. I used a starch spray, ironing on wax paper or CMC to make the silk paper.i haven't used glue. Your paper looks very nice. It will be fun to use it.
Have fun in Florida!

I like that idea, Ann.
I've made silk paper and a bunch of other papers - bamboo and cotton, I think. Oddly enough, I had them out the other day because I saw a note to myself about machine sewing on them. I just used spray starch. I did get a book, but I don't think I even opened it.

Silk paper 'felts in' very easily and is great for surface design.

Have never made paper before--silk or otherwise--but I do like the effect you achieved, Judy!

It's looking good. Always good to try something new! I've made silk paper - I've used 'vanishing fabric', potato starch paper (a rice paper alternative) and water based glue as a medium. All worked equally well. Thin slivers of silk carrier rod give good effects, both dyed and undyed, and it's possible to weave them if you can peel them back to an even (ish) size. As well as felting it in, it can be made into beads and it's good to sew onto felt and can be embellished with beads, embroidery etc........ This list is not exhaustive! Enjoy your winter sunshine.

Hello Everyone, thanks for the nice comments on my silk paper... I have bought a papermaking kit so I do plan making regular paper too.. I reckon I could add a silk hankie and see what happens.. Smile... Lun and Judith how would you combine silk paper with "Felt"?.... Do you all any photos demo this? Today it is to be 50F and for the next several days... very unbelievable but Winter is to return next week... Very sad face... We plan to pack up the camper with our stuff now because I reckon by February it will be buried in snow.. Does anyone have any suggestions of their favorite places to visit in Florida? ?

Like Lyn, I use mine for surface decoration, as she says it felts in really easily and can be cut to whatever shape you desire. I use it just like prefelt - lay it on the surface, wet out and "set" it into position by stroking through a sheet of thin plastic before starting to roll.
I made mine using wall paper paste - laid out the fibre on some netting, put another sheet of netting over the top (fly screen works best for this) and sponged the paste through. Leave to dry then peel off the netting. The paper lasts for years if kept dry.

Wow, I had no idea you could use silk paper in feltiing. It makes sense, I just never even thought of that as a possibility. I like your piece a lot Zed. The colors are beautiful and the coin purse is lovely. This will be something I'll need to remember down the road.

Great piece of felt Zed. I don't know if you make the silk paper with glue if it would work in felt. I have done the paper with starch like Zed and it can be cut and but is delicate. Now I will have to look what happened to it.
