Hi Everyone, My name is Angie and I live in New Hampshire (US). I had been reading the blog for a while and read that you have a forum, so I thought I would check it out. I haven't started felting yet, but have been getting materials needed for wet and needle felting. I have been watching many if not all of the videos on YouTube about wet felting over resist. I got the thought of making slippers in my head a while ago and it hasn't left my mind. I also want to make pictures with needle felting. I have enjoyed reading and looking at the photographs of the work you all have done. Quite inspiring! I will post photos of the things I get done once I actually start. Angie

Hello Angie - welcome to the forum!
It may help you to get started if you just make a small piece of felt - no pressure, don't fret over it, it's just a sample - because then you'll get a feel for how wool behaves then you'll be off and felting like mad!

Hi Angie, and welcome to the forum That's good advice from Lyn, it's good to have lots of info, one of the reasons we started the blog and forum and why a lot of us do tutorials is because there wasn't much info when we first started. But, that's also the reason we learned a lot, we had to just dive in and try it, it's good to experiment before you read too many opinions about what you should or shouldn't do or what does or doesn't 'work'

My plan was to start with making a piece (or 2 or 3) of flat felt; then move to making a pod to get a feel of how it is to work with using a resist until I feel comfortable enough to go to slippers. I'm looking forward to all of this as I got some bamboo fiber to see how it looks on top. I like seeing different fibers on top as it adds interest. I have seen the photos of the felt Zed made using various embellishing fibers and really like the look of it.

Welcome Angie! You've come to the right place to learn and experiment. When you're ready to do a pod Lyn at www.Rosiepink.typepad.uk has an excellent free tutorial. The best thing is to jump right in and get started. I look forward to seeing your projects. And please don't hesitate to ask questions. Have fun!

Welcome Angie - I'm glad you joined us. Feel free to ask any questions and we do love to see photos of what you've made. As Zed said, it's good just to go ahead and jump in. Sometimes things don't always work out as planned but you always learn something new. Small samples are great for getting started and you can always make them into something else or use them for coasters or hot pads. We look forward to seeing what you make

Welcome Angie!
My first project was a pair of slippers for a grandbaby. They came out good and I learned lots. I learn every time I make something. Whatever you start with, share your results, please!
