What a cool web site! I just love looking at the sheep, but the fibers are also yummy. Might have to look at her postal rates for the States...

I agree with Cathy, it's neat to see the sheep along with the wool. Of course, I've never seen any of those breeds here. Please post pics when you get it mrsplop.
Zed, are you thinking if doing a fleece?

I am interested in how the Dorset down felts. Dorset's here are down breeds but there down means something else. I think Dorset downs means they are from the downs as apposed to midlands and mountain. Here it means the wool is down wool which although it will felt eventually will only make a very spongy felt that works well for rugs and saddle pads but not what most people are looking for in wet felt. It does needle felt well.
Marilyn Dorset's are a meat breed and you don't see there wool for sale often. It can only prepared for spinning woolen yarn not worsted.

I spent a while talking to them on the phone about how it felts, and apparently it felts really well, but I will be using it for needle felting. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any queries you have. They're really nice and so helpful! And yes, I think it means the sheep are from the Dorset Downs (I would imagine anyway!) |

I haven't seen Amanda on here for a while, I hope it's because she's busy with the business I get Dorset Horn wool tops, it's not really spongy, but isn't as 'compact' as finer breeds. Still here Zed! Busy enjoying the great summer we have had in Finland and starting to get back to work , ready for Christmas. That raw fleece looks heavenly but need to clear out some of my current stash first!!

Zed interesting history but really doesn't tell you about the wool. They say the Dorset down had high quality wool but that really doesn't mean anything and the horned they don't mention it as an asset. It may be that the North American blood lines are quite different from the European. It would be great if there was an independent body that had a website with true comparisons. Breed sites all tell you their sheep are just this side of saintly.

My apologies for being rubbish and not posting a pic of the wool before. I've been so busy! crazy! The wool actually arrived the very day after I ordered it. Impressed So I've attached a pic of the wool that Amanda at Newmoor Barn sent me, and also a little golden retriever pup that I made from the cappucino dorset down, and donated to Irish Retriever Rescue as an auction item. They're a brilliant dog rescue and the auction's going really well With regard to how the Dorset Down felts, it's absolutely brilliant, it's so lovely and easy to felt! The top coat of the pup is the same colour in alpaca. Also brilliant.
