Made this bowl on a 12" diameter flat resist with 4 layers it's about 8" x 4" and very hard felted. CIMG6788 by koffipot, on Flickr CIMG6787 by koffipot, on Flickr Cobweb scarf made with WOW mix "bumblebee", with alpaca yarn and handspun silk yarn (yes I made it on my drop spindle!) from hand dyed silk hankies. It reminds me of our local flower meadows and I'm now adding some french knot 'flowers' to complete the look. Don't know if you can see the teeny tiny metal tag - I picked up several of these when I was on holiday recently as I thought they are quite sweet. It says "hand crafted". Wow. The bowl looks like stone! That's amazing. I love the scarf too.

They both remind me of stone/minerals, but in a soft way I can see the tag if I click to see the original photo. They're both really nice.

What a beautiful scarf, Judith! how long was the skein at the beginning before you spread it out? Did you use only one length of it or two? I've never made a cobweb scarf but it is on my list of things to do.

The 'stone' pod is a beautiful home ornament - and the scarf is divine with its wonderful colour mix. I like the metal tag idea - something similar can be made with a children's toy. It's called shrinkies - I've made very small name tags from it. When it's baked it's very firm and neat and you can put holes wherever you like on it for sewing on.

Nada -It started out about 2m long. I used one length and spread it out widthways to 30cms. It was approx 1.6m when finished including tassled ends which I didn't like, so trimmed them straight, so its now only about 1.4m. Now to add the flowers, it's nice to have some handsewing to do in the evenings, but I'll have to be careful not to ruin the back. My mother always reckoned theat embroidery should look almost as good on the back!! My work isn't as good as hers though! Lyn - I remember my children having "Shrinky Dinks" - they were fun. I didn't realise they were still available. Perhaps Tyvek would work - I have some of that.

The pod is fantastic! The colors are peaceful and the technique looks superb. I now have a bad case of pod-o-phobia. I love making cobweb scarves--it's always fun to see how the fibers mesh and glow. Your colors and fibers are a great mix.

These are both beautiful Judith. I especially love the color mix on the scarf. It's great that you were able to use your handspun yarn in the scarf. Making the front and back of embroidery look good is hard. Could you do a french knot on each side, back to back? You'd have to start and end the thread each time. But then you'd have your flower design on each side.

Judith, the pod and scarf are beautiful. I agree the pod looks like stone. I look forward to seeing the finished scarf. I'm not a great embroiderer either. I used to do it, I guess I'm long out of practice.
I remember shrinky dinks. My kids used to make things with it. I have seen it in the craft stores. But I like the idea of metal.

The colour mix in the scarf is a World of Wool mix as is the outer layer on the bowl. The scarf is "Bumblebee" and the bowl, "Pisces".
I'd like to try some Acrylic Polymer medium on the bowl to make it even more like stone.
