I paint most of my canvas black with a stripe design. I tried to upload another one, but kept getting an error. You can see what I do by these two examples. When I do a one man show or have several entries, they will usually hang them together and it gives a nice presentation. Black doesn't always work so I sometimes paint a square or rectangle in a lighter color and paint black on the rest of the canvas. Looks like a mat behind the artwork and the black looks like a frame and the stripe is near the bottom. Attachments:

This is really interesting Judy, it adds to the work in such a simple way. Often canvas treatments distract form the art work.
