Ah, thanks zed, had been wondering where to get them. Do you have any advice on their use? I saw something on the net a while ago, looks like you can get quite a good sheen with them.

They are very much like using giant silk hankies or caps. They don't have the dense edge but you can stretch them out the same way.

It's a long time since I used it now. I got sent some from Inger, I think she said about 20g was enough for a scarf. It's the only time I've ever made something by mainly rolling, I did have to give it a rub near the end. I'm not sure I'd use the same technique again, though. It's really gorgeous stuff. silk lap scarf by zedster01, on Flickr

Glad they are carrying them. At least you don't have to order them from China now!

I don't think they're expensive, Kaz, that's for between 300g and 500g. Last time I saw it on etsy it was around $90 for 100g. I just googled silk laps and found 3 places selling it. Rainbow silks wasn't too bad, there's was £5.50 for 50g which is £33 for 300 or £55 for 500g Fibrefusion www.fibrefusion.com.au/p/1187304/undyed-silk-lap-x-large.html in Aus, AU$ 115.20 for a similar size, thats £76.40 Meinketoy www.meinketoy.com/item_278/Dyed-Silk-Laps.htm$7.50 for 10g, that's $225 for 300g or £146 and for 500g it's $375 or £243 £28 is looking really, really cheap now

Glad they are carrying them. At least you don't have to order them from China now! This just reminded me of a story in the Daily Mail a few weeks ago about cheap Chinese 'Cashmere', some woman was ranting in the comments about everything coming from China these days, she said she had a silk blouse and when she checked the label, even that was made in China! Who'd have thought, silk from China? Thanks, Judith I love the sheen from silk too, and how similar to wool, the loose fibres pull together to form a 'solid' fabric.

That's good...I was thinking I would have to buy them by the kilo in China, mind you might do a quick price comparison, think it's the same place Inger got hers from (not sure if she's still gettting them from the same place).

You used to grow and process silk in England. They where talking about it on the news when the wedding was on.

I saw someone as I was stumbling round the web recently, who kept silk moths, or maybe it was just moths and they used their coccoons and silk.
