This ornamental bowl is handmade merino wool felt, free motion stitching and dyes. It was a frustrating project and answers Ruth's blog post quite well When do you give up on a design? If you want to know how frustrating, I've written a blog post on rosie's blog.

It was well worth the time and effort. I don't know if my comment on your blog posted or not. Quite the adventure!

Yes, it does answer the question and I think it was well worth the effort. You wouldn't have achieved the effect any other way - it's gorgeous. I can see a whole series of bowls based on flowers

Marilyn - thank you for the blog comment (we have moderation set so that we don't get any 'nutty' comments published). Felicity - thank you for your lovely remark. Ruth - thank you but I think a whole series of bowls might reduce me to an exhausted wreck - thank you for the blog comment.

Lyn - it did sound exhausting. So perhaps you can wait awhile before making the rest

The colors are so delicate and "tulip-like" that it's difficult to picture the same bowl in black and white! As trying as it was, it turned out great. Perseverance pays off!

off to check out your blog, the effect is so delicate it's beautiful, it reminds of glass art nouveau bowls :-)

Carole - funny you should say that - I am reminded of stained glass when I look at it. I think it's the black outlining the colours.
Thank you Judith - hope you're feeling much better.
Luvswool - I had a vision of delicate white tulips, but hey, things happen when you don't give up.

Gorgeous! When I saw the picture and without reading the text I thought it was something made of glass - looks like Venitian glass, very beautiful.

Thanks Zed and Halay - yes, the black outline works well to imitate glass or outlined watercolours - I think it's something I'll be doing more of.
Just shows the effect you can achieve with felt. Do you remember the autumn bowl of oak leaves? A friend who visited and saw it on my table thought it was ceramic until she touched it.

Oh my goodness. That is just first rate. I have not seen anything better at any fiber art show. A prize winner, in my opinion.
