Marilyn's latest blog post is an excellent tutorial for a silk chiffon ruffle scarf. Ruffled Nuno Felted Silk ScarfIt's so easy to get it 'not quite right' as I found out in 2011 when I made this one. I also wanted a double sided scarf, but I used a little too much wool. When you have yards of chiffon laid out flat, the wool layers look quite sparse.......until you throw the scarf in the sink and it shrinks to the right size!

Lyn, I actually like the scarf you made and admire your model choice! Did you add a ruffle to the edges, or is that natural ruching/ruffling effect from felting?

Thanks Lyn! Your scarf is beautiful! Yes, it's hard to judge the amount of wool to use to get just the right amount of ruching on both sides. Every scarf is a learning experience. I like how the ruffle was slightly ruched in places.

You are right Lyn, at first it seems there are too many empty spaces on silk so one has to be aware that everything will look approx. 40% smaller in the end.

Yes - I know what you mean about the wool being more than you thought it was. But the result looks good. I did one of these with a smaller scarf blank and now it is tiny! It's a scarflette.

I usually have the opposite problem and have to go over the scarf with extra layers. Does that balance us out?

I love the photo! I like the way the scarf turned out, too.

Marilyn - serendipity has been responsible for most of the stuff I've made that I like.
Zed - taking a photo of a scarf is difficult unless you have one of those torso/dummy things, but I thought the garden statue might do.
