In the clearance section of a Craft Store I picked up little package that said “Bounce a Wooly Ball until it Felts” for $2.00 regular price $12.00. The package had been opened and left in it were an inflatable ball and a stretchy mesh bag. I then went in search of instructions on how to use this little find. After reading and watching several tutorials on making vessels and hats I used the Ball to make what I thought might be a hat. It came out fine but was a bit blah and was not large enough to turn up a brim. As I was looking through my hats I came across an old corduroy hat that was a bit soiled. I hand washed it, let it dry and then steam pressed it. I then added the felted piece and viola I made an Old Hat into a New Hat. I used a safety pin to secure the felt to the hat as I may want to make another cover for it. I also made a coordinating scarf. I have not made a flower yet so maybe I will try making one to add to my New Hat. Needless to say I will be on the lookout for hats that can be made “New” again. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/x65kk_3jjpjzvjcbxxbr.jpg (I did find a tutorial for children where you bounced the ball sallybea.hubpages.com/hub/Hat-on-a-Ball-A-Wet-Felting-tutorial-for-Children) but I opted to use more traditional felting techniques. Note: Started felting January 01/11/14 3rd and 4th items felted

It's lovely Frances, the colour combination is so perfect that it looks like you chose the colours with the corduroy hat in mind. Well done! I can't get the link to work but the idea of bouncing a ball to make felt sounds like a lot of fun!

Frances, that's great repurposing! Also, a good deal on the kit. I agree with Teri making felt with a ball would be fun and great exercise!

Thanks Frances - the new link worked. Looks like too much fun for children, I think we grown ups should keep it to ourselves!

Terri your post ended up on here twice. I deleted the second one. I don't know it send you a notice that I deleted it.
I think it's a great idea for repurposing hats. Yours turnout wonderful.
I have done a layout for a vessel on a ball once in a class and never again. now I do a flat template and then when I cut the template out I put the felt on the ball just for shape. I know people that have tried the bouncing technique and it isn't great. its really hard to get even felting. you never seem to get the bounces all over the ball. It does sound like fun to do on a hot day.

Thanks Ann - no I didn't receive a message that it had been deleted (I guess that gives you and the other mods cart blanche to delete any posts you don't like with impunity )
