In one of my future projects I would like to use locks (I can't remember which ones I have Gotland or Wensleydale). I would like to put them on the edge and let them hang down. Do I need to protect the ends (curly part), i.e. wrap them in a piece of thin plastic so as not to destroy the curls during felting? They are very expensive and would not like to make a mess. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Halay, if you are using raw locks it shouldn't be a problem, they are less likely to felt together. When I've used locks on the edges of things, I've just tried to keep them out to the side and be careful, and if they get close to each other, separate them. It can be time consuming. I personally have never wrapped curls, but it should work. This one, I want very particular about separating: Wet felted bird pod by zedster01, on Flickr This one, I did try a bit harder, but I wasn't bothered if they felted closer to the pod, I just wanted lots of loose curls White felted birdhouse by zedster01, on Flickr

Thank you Zed, I think I'm going to wrap them in a small piece of cling film just to make sure the don't felt together.

As Zed says, either way should work. You just have to be careful of them. What are you planning on making?

Ruth, I'll post a picture if it comes out OK - I'm planning a vest, my first one.

Oh that sounds cool. Are you making it seamless or do you plan on sewing the pieces together?

I have wrapped mine when there are several rows of them or when part of them will coming contact with other parts of the felt.

Ann - I'm laughing - and it hurts! How many rows of men did you keep apart?

I just realised I wrote 'want' instead of 'wasn't'. I don't know if it was a typo or I was phonetically typing how us Mancs lazily say wa'n't for wasn't

We all do it! If it makes someone smile then it's good. My lovely M-I-L, used to have us rolling about laughing when she used the wrong word.

Judith that's me I repel men with plastic wrap. I seem to do a lot of letter jumbling and skipping when I type these days.

Auto correct seems to insert words that I know I never came close to typing in. It takes too much time to proofread everything you type.

I am glad I am not the only person that has lazy fingers. But, the real reason for coming to this page is I have been looking and looking for source for locks and I can't seem to find one. I would like to add some of the fiber to some of my felting. I love the texture I can see it gives to a project. So, any suggestion would be very helpful.
