I wanted to share this with you all.. it was so easy to make! First, I used a 10" gertie ball, which honestly, I don't enjoy all that much. It's slippery and I never get a good feel for how well things are felting. Here I used about 3 thin layers of merino. After felting, but BEFORE taking the ball out, I applied a fabric stiffener (GAC 400 in this case) at about a 50/50% to water ratio. The ball itself was still a bit damp. Setting it on a cup to dry, I turned the ball every few hours or so to make sure all the glue didn't run off the bottom (Very messy process!). After a full 24 hours, I cut a whole where the ball-button was and slowly deflated the ball to release it from the stiffened wool. *Pulling too hard would make the whole thing cave it* Once completely air dried, I went to cutting out my pattern... using cuticle scissors of all things. Sharp and already curved! And voila! I already had a small lamp base that was the perfect size, and the cut-outs provide enough vents to keep the lamp from getting too hot. ....And now I'm going to post this whole thing on my blog

Very pretty lamp - I like the patterns on the wall that are cast through the cut-outs.

That looks fantastic, I love how the cut outs bit make such a good pattern. I also like the look of the nice thick lamp base, it has a nice balance with the felted globe on top.
