I can see the differences in your work. You both live in a beautiful place. there is a women on Facebook that does portraits and one that copies old masters. They are both amazing. I am jealous of all of you. I wish I could get what's in my head to come out my fingers and onto my paper or felt

Yes, Pic Monkey is my main program for resizing photos, among other things. I also use it to create backdrops for my artwork. I can choose a wall color that goes well behind my artwork. I like using the shadow effect too. It is a great program. When I get time, I will try the 720 on longest side. I put pictures on a lot of sites, but it just never seems to work on this one.

Hello Judy - I can't remember from where I got the advice, but making the longest side 720 seems to reduce the image to a reasonable size for uploading but the image still looks ok on a monitor - however, because it's been reduced you have no fear of people being able to print it off.

Update time:
I don't know if any of you have found my page on Facebook, but the open studio selection panel turned me down for the event next May. I've had a lot of messages from incredulous followers not quite understanding why and until today I didn't really understand why either. Today I received the feedback which basically said that when compared to other landscape artists (i.e. those using other media) my work wasn't as strong.
I replied saying that I was surprised that choice of subject was used as a comparison and not use of media, skill and technique. I had expected to be judged against other textile artists, but no.
I'm OK about this decision. If I'm honest I have always complained about the expense of taking part (£250 in all) and the weekend is over a English bank holiday whilst being in Scotland, so I would have had to ask my schools to allow me to take an unpaid day off in order to take part which would have added another £100 to the cost of the event!
So that weekend I'm available for weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs...

Helen Keller wrote: "When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us."
You've already wisely taken your eyes off the Open Studio door, so who knows what better opportunity you'll see now?
And I second Judith's opinion.

Sorry to hear that. Fiber art isn't always judged fairly against other media. Most judges don't understand the process. But it's good that you applied as that opens more eyes to the beauty of fiber art. And I agree with Lyn and Judith.

I agree that it's their loss. I know it is disappointing though. Many people do not understand art that isn't paint or sculpture. You could just put out a sign for an open studio day while it's on. I found you on Facebook and your blog.

Out of everyone I think I'm most worried about sharing these with you lot! Not because I think you'll be harsh or critical, but because felting is what you do, whereas I've been sharing these with people to whom felting is fairly new. It's taken me ages to get to this point, I had to teach myself the techniques I needed (I'm not in a position to attend classes) and build up a range of materials. So, you're completely self taught, whereas a lot of the others will have been to college/art school/classes etc? And like you said who knows better about fibre art than us? And we all seem to think you're pretty excellent I don't know how this Open Studio thing works, but can you have your studio open that day anyway? Not officially be part of it, but be available for anyone interested?

Not officially be part of it, but be available for anyone interested? I went to college, did some textiles as part of my degree, but have never felted. I think my painting style lends itself to felting though and I have long since wanted to try. I learn quickly, I experiment, I learn from mistakes and I'm enjoying what I'm doing! I'm delighted that folk like what is making me smile! I've been open on the last couple of years during Spring Fling and had few visitors. The people that visit follow a map and if you're not on it they don't bother to look. I'll be open as normal, but I don't think it's worth opening longer and fueling my angst! I really appreciate the support - thank you all.
