I've been asked to modify (make narrower and change the shape) a faux fur stole for a bridesmaid. Simple assignment? Uh-uh. I've just spent nearly an hour unpicking the delicate lining and I'm choking on fluff!
Still, I suppose it's one way of getting my 'daily dose of fibre'....but I don't think Ruth meant that I had to actually eat it!

LOL - Faux fur does not sound very appetizing. Hope you get it worked out successfully.

I remember making costumes with it for my kids, not a fun fabric to work with it gets everywhere. Good luck!

I made a few toys with it years ago, it really is messy!

Well, one of the things that I learned working with the stuff is that you have to comb it away from the seams before you sew. If you don't it looks really bad. Worse than giving a cat a bath. Ha.

Messy? Understatement!
You're right about the seams Judy, I went all around the edge of the stole coaxing the fur inwards then lashing it down with hand stitching so that I could pin the lining to it properly. I'll have to leave a 9" gap in the machine stitching so that I can turn it out the right way, so hand sewing that bit will be fun...not.
Also, for anyone else thinking of partaking in faux fur fun, you have to cut it out on the wrong side (i.e. not the furry side) and only snip the backing not the fur, then pull it apart, otherwise the edge will look as if you've cut it with a knife and fork.

Phew! Stole finished successfully.
Note to self: If anyone else asks me to work with faux fur, say 'no' and run away as fast as possible.

Not nice stuff to work with. Cutting on the back with a craft knife as you would for a carpet keeps the fluff down a bit. You'll know exactly what to say if your asked to so this sort of job again! it's a short word, starts with N and ends in O!

It'd probably be easier to felt a replica

Probably much nicer too, but perhaps we're biased!

Glad you got it finished Lyn. I'm sure it will be very easy to say No next time.

I agree. I would not ever do it again. There are too many other things to do.
