I have been working like a Trojan to get all my work mounted onto black canvas, as some of you know. I was just hoping that it would all go into one big exhibit and would all look like a series. Well, I got the call today from the woman who runs the exhibits at the Springfield International Airport. I had done a small exhibit there last year. It inspired me to think bigger. She wants everything I have. Since I have two other exhibits in the works, I gave her images of 17 pieces. I would have had more, but I gave some to my family, as I had nowhere to put them. (You see, I lost faith and was thinking small again) Just goes to show you, if you prepare, they will call.

Congrats Judy! Can you get some of your gifts back on a temporary basis just for the show(s)? What a thrill for you.

My gifts are gone forever. My kids perch over them like vultures. Oh well, more incentive to create more. I actually did one of those things that I promised I would NOT do again. I am teaching another difficult class. It is the Pet Portraits. When I showed my new Spunky, (not quite finished) the teacher told me her hard luck story about needing to take a vacation and really pressured me to do it. Well, the problem is that these quilters are just not artists and I have to lay so much ground work, that I hardly have any time left for the hands on part. I have so many jobs with so many guilds, I must be out of my mind. I need to analyze myself. I can't afford a professional to do it.

Judy that is great news that you have 3 exhibits on the go. A lot of work but great news. You really do have to pace yourself.
With the class maybe you should break it into 2 classes or a several class course. Than they will only take it if they really want to learn it. If not enough sigh up then you are off the hook and if they do it will be a lot more fun for everyone. I can make several felt post in a day but the class I took was one pot and it was 2 full days.

This class is for our art quilt guild that meets once a month at the quilt guild. I am not really a quilter, in that I only make wall hangings and don't do much piecing. Mostly fusing. The teacher is burnt out. Her son is getting chemo and she was a nurse, so she is trying to help him get through this time. You can see why I just couldn't turn her down. So, even though, I think this is going to be a very difficult project for quilters, I am going to break it up into two or three meetings. This will give her a rest, and I think everyone will come. But, it means making class samples and breaking everything down into it's most basic instructions. It just isn't anything I wanted to do right now.
On a positive, I am putting labels on all my airport pieces and will wrap them in bubble wrap before Friday delivery. My husband looked at all the bare walls and said, "How long are these going to be gone?" Had to laugh.

ok I see I was thinking it was a separate class. You need someone to do the meeting program so she can take a break. For after your done maybe the group should get together and see who in the group could give a talk or demo and maybe some outside people could be contacted to give talks or demos. It is hard for one person to do it all the time.

Yes, that is what we are doing. I do understand her need to get away. Everyone there is quilters who are trying to be artists and I am an artist trying to learn fiber art. Our teacher is a multi talent individual who is bringing us all into the Art Quilt category. She is very faithful to be there for us. So you see how I really can't turn her down. Even though, I am really busy right now. So, I guess I will just make the time. My husband tells me he is glad that I am overworked because it keeps me out of his hair. Oh, and he told me that I have OCD anyway, so this should be no big thing. lol

So only 8 of the 16 pieces got juried into the airport exhibit. Some, they just considered were too small. Not sure why they rejected a couple of them. They seemed to choose the larger pieces that were more abstract than realistic. I was kind of surprised that they chose a couple of them, as they are not my favorites. But, you never know. But it will be up through August, so that leaves me some things to enter into other shows.
Spent so much time on Ancestry.com. I found out that I am distantly related to all the Kings of England. Mostly though the Drury side of the family. I was so shocked that I was almost afraid to tell anyone. They might think I am making it up. I finally wound up with Dukes from France in the 1100's William the Conquerer was in there. Guess I don't need to clean up the kitchen anymore or take out trash. (I told that to my husband)

LOL thats right Judy, taking out the trash is way to menial for you lol Its pretty amazing isnt it. My Dads always been right into ancestry and traced our family back to the 1500 or something so far, it seems we had a castle in Ireland. Leap Castle so i really shouldnt be cleaning the kitchen or taking out the trash either

Finally finished my Spunky Pet Portrait, and it is up on my blog. It needs some explaining, as it tells a story. If you would like to see it, here is the link. My daughter is very happy with this. However, I need to get back to some serious art now. judysfiberart.blogspot.com/2013/04/spunky.html

Spunky is wonderful - your daughter must be very pleased - the story behind the portrait is funny.
Having 8 out of 16 pieces selected is good - I'd be pleased with that! Well done.
