This morning I posted my "Memory of Trees" on my blog. judysfiberart.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-memory-of-trees.html and then started to work on my class samples again. I hope to have this wrapped up by the end of February. Tonight I will attend the artist's reception for the recent exhibit that I entered. This is a very professional show and has an invitational student exhibit with it. So, I am anxious to see what is there.

It turned out really well Judy. I like the way you've mounted it.

Karen and Judy - I love the trees!
I've been busy writing tutorials - the most time consuming thing is actually getting the photos, then having to sit at the computer and sift through several hundred shots trying to decide which are best.

Today I went to my guild Art Quilt group. We made small elements for our projects out of bread and glue dough. White glue and white bread made into a type of air dry clay. It took a whole lot of kneading inside a ziploc bag. You can color the dough with food coloring or alcohol inks. Some people made little fish and turtles and seahorses for an underwater theme, I made small roses. Not sure if it is worth all the effort when you can just buy a bag of air dry clay that lasts a long time. Or better yet, polymer clay. It is not that expensive. But....it was fun.

I feel your pain, Lyn! I haven't personally done any fibre work for the past few weeks, but I did buy some wool fat soap in Hebden Bridge. I'm looking forward to using that

Well, I feel like I am writing tutorials. And oh, I assume that wool fat soap has lanolin? Well I am probably not right on that one. I spent some time today making patterns on graph paper for my upcoming strip landscape class. It is easier this way. I can just used colored pencil to color in places that I am illustrating. I want to show the class how to make secondary patterns within their composition by using color value changes. You can make a square appear on a landscape by just putting a lighter color value in that square area. These are traditional quilters or people who are not even quilters at all. Most have never had any art training, so I need to simplify everything.

I laid out the wool for my boot insoles today. I am using swaledale for the first time. I am expecting it to felt up spongy. It has a lot of hair in it.

I stitched in the car today. We traveled from Philadelphia to Richmond, VA. Tomorrow I'm home to Montana.

My only creative hands-on thing today was cutting out stuff ready for children's craft club at work tomorrow.
I'm busy with writing and photography - but it's all about fibre so I don't mind too much.
It's half-term holiday here this week and my grand-daughter is staying most of the week so we'll probably do a bit of knitting and a bit of cutting and sticking and we'll try out that felt-ball-in-a-pot tutorial that was on the forum's blog recently.

Can't believe I actually guessed the right answer for the soap. ha. Today I painted my bread dough flowers with some alcohol ink. They look pretty good, but I think I may have to put a sealer on it. I also spent more time making illustrations for my upcoming Landscape class. Kind of a dull day. There is an ice storm heading our way for Thurs.
