They look gorgeous Ruth, i imagine you could use that velvet stitch for a lot of stuff, i love the knot on a stalk, makes for really pretty flowers

Karen - you know how to do knots on stalks. It's just a French knot that you leave a long tail on. So make it like you usually do but don't put your needle back in so close to where you came out. That leaves the stalk part of the stitch.

That doesn't quite make sense to me because when I do a french knot I put my needle down through the cloth. I was tinkinng it was a big stitch with a french knot on the end.

Bring the needle up through the cloth where you want the end of the stalk to be (not the knot end), make a french knot by wrapping the thread around the needle. Stick the needle back down into the cloth at a distance from where you originally came up through the cloth and complete the knot. It is a french knot leaving a long tail. Does that make more sense?
