Hello. Has anyone tried recycled carded wool? A friend of mines has pointed out that there are companies selling recycled wool, not only recycled wool yarn but fibers, so I looked online and I found only this one in UK selling recycled wool fiber for felting or re-spinning: www.iinouiio.com/shop/recycled-wool-wool-blend-and-carded-silverI am interested in hearing the experience of felters on those types of batts or carded slivers. How do you felt it, is it easy and enjoyable, what can you use it for? and so on. I gather that the colour range is limited, at least at this online shop. Are there other companies selling that to try?

I have not come across recycled wool like this before. I should think it would be ok for needle felting, but I don't think I'd even bother trying to wet felt it, I don't much like the look of it. As for spinning it as some people apparently do, I suppose it depends upon what your end goal was as to whether it would be worth it. It strikes me as very expensive for what it is. I think I'd rather go for wool laps (the bits left on the mechanical carding machines etc, like these: www.winghamwoolwork.co.uk/laps.html They are a much better price and look more interesting - to me at any rate.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ann. I see what you mean, comparing the two products.

Interesting, I had never heard of the recycled wool either. It does look like a mess. It might felt but might not. I certainly wouldn't invest a lot of money until you had tried a felting sample.

I had never seen it for sale but considering they have no idea what kind of wool or the micron count I wouldn't try to wet felt it, even the carded fibre. it may have non-felting wool in it. I like to know what I am working with. It looks a mess and it's not clean.
